What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

It was disturbing. To be so committed to no longer wanting to be friend with someone show a little bit of unstableness?
I just looked it up to see if Independent and would have never thought as popular as it was .

The Banshees of Inisherin received nine nominations at the 95th Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. At the 80th Golden Globe Awards, it won three awards: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor – Musical or Comedy (Farrell), and Best Screenplay. It also won four BAFTA Awards from ten nominations at the 76th British Academy Film Awards: Outstanding British Film, Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Keoghan), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Condon), and Best Original Screenplay.

The film was also named one of the Top Ten Films of 2022 by the National Board of Review. It has since been cited as among the best films of the 2020s and the 21st century so far.''

I watched Last Breath today at the theater. It is about deep sea divers who go 1000 feet below sea level to repair pipelines. The host ship gets caught in a severe storm and starts to drift away, which causes one of the divers' pulley to snap. He has limited time to make it back up to the platform before he runs out of oxygen. It is based on a true story. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time after the pulley broke.

That was a good movie except for the ending, which I found to be completely unbelievable. Nobody would ever do that in real life.

There was a reference on another thread to the song, Convoy. I recalled that it had been made into a movie that left a favorable impression, but I hadn't stumbled over it in decades. Lucky for me, my library had it on free streaming, so I watched it last night.

Fluff, but fun - exactly what I was looking for. Brought me back to the CB era and left me wondering if truckers still use them.

I should have guessed you would. We're often birds of a feather. ❤️

When one of my sons was taking a film class in college the professor said something about Freaks and my son chanted, a little louder than intended, "One of us, One of us." The professor laughed and asked if anyone else was familiar with the movie. No hands went up. He said to DS, "I don't see many in your age group (about 19) who know that movie. Did your dad introduce you to it?

DS, smiled and said, "No. My mom." The professor cracked up.

p.s. I have it on DVD. As does that son.

We just watched A Real Pain. The first half was excruciatingly bad due to the incredibly annoying cousin. The second half was better because the cousin was less annoying. It had some good scenes. I'd give it a 6.2.

Well that's interesting to hear. I made it about 30 minutes before bailing. I couldn't see what the interest was in the picture. I guess it got better later. Otherwise I was completely mystified that Kieran Culkin got the Best Supportng Oscar.

Barefoot in the Park - b/w going back a bit a very young Jane Fonda and Robert Redford - looked like they were just cutting their teeth on being actors - over did it IMO? - but there were moments of nostalgia - the parks of NY and no druggies about only tramps with bourbon bottles!

My wife left the room after 15 minutes. With use of a few fast forwards I lasted nearly 30 minutes before bailing. If you’re a fan of pornography you might be entertained by this film.

The story is basic bare bones, figuratively and literally. They’ve taken a routine drama about a well worn premise, and in their attempt to make it meaningful, have filled it with stereophonic, near psychedelic sex and razzmatazz That might make for good cinema, but it results in a questionable movie. It should have drawn an NC-17 rating.

The wild ‘n crazy son of a Russian oligarch comes to New York City to attend school, but mostly parties wildly instead. He connects with a prostitute at a strip club, and they proceed to have a fling which results in an impulsive marriage. His parents want it annulled, so they come to NYC to facilitate that, eventually having the marriage dissolved, and return the son to Russia. Supposedly there is an artsy ending. That’s about it.

In fairness, reportedly the story changes tone in the middle, so in that way the story may then gain appeal. The acting from the principals, especially by Mark Eydelshteyn and also Mikey Madison, is first rate.

Perhaps some day, the disgust from the film’s first 30 minutes having worn off, a viewing from mid-film on might change my opinion. But as a friend of mine used to say, “Sometimes it’s not worth getting into the bulls**t to see what the bull ate.” That this is Hollywood’s notion of the best picture of the year is emblematic of the industry’s steady slide into Sodom and Gomorrah, into Hieronymus Bosch’s “The Garden of Earthly Delights”. Still, there have been a few signs that the SoCal fantasy swamp might be starting to arise from the muck, but it’ll have to be seen to be believed.

Last night I watched The Enemy Within. Pretty good and it kept my interest as it was filmed in DC near where I lived. However it turned sour and a little silly as the lack of Secret Service around the President and others was mising. The entire plot would never happen IRL

I actually loved A Real Pain, but then I love Jesse Eisenberg. Now it's streaming so I'm gonna watch it again. Also I'm Jewish so maybe that makes a difference?

Another movie I loved! Though I was surprised it won Best Picture since it's not a typical BP. Also loved Mikey Madison's performance and her persona, She was in the TV series Better Things as the oldest of 3 daughters.
