New Military ID Card (USID)

In 2020 they came out with a new Uniformed Services ID card (USID)
It sure does look different from the old card.

"The Department of Defense transitioned from its legacy paper-based Uniformed Services Identification (USID) card to a more secure, next generation USID card. The Next Generation USID card incorporates an updated design and security features to deter counterfeiting and fraud, and is printed on a plastic cardstock."

So last week, I got around the checking about getting the new card. Arriving at the ID Card Office Online I fully expected to have to make an appointment with the Card Office for a new card.

What I found there was that you can actually order the new card online !!! ... if DEERS has a photo of you on file.

So at the ID Card Office Online I chose the "Family ID Cards" block and clicked "Continue".
From there I had to log in with my DS Logon and just followed the prompts to order the new USID card
Ordered last week and arrived in the mail today to my house. Old on top. New on bottom ...
Personal info is brushed out for online security

OH ... and once the new USID card arrives, you have to go back to the ID Card Office Online to activate the new card.
Guess they want to make sure you've received it in good order.
Just a matter of logging back on and acknowledging (confirm) receipt of the card.

My photo was apparently automatically entered into DEERS when I first got my old card.
That's why I was able to get the new USID card online.

Oh you were an E-7 so now your showing off , lol

I was E-4 , drafted and then got out .

Even if they have a photo of you in DEERS, there is a yearly time constraint on how recent the photo might be. And shoot, I can't remember the what the "Within XX number of years" was. My old ID was issued in 2018 when I turned 65, so that old ID photo was within the time period stated ... whatever the time period was 🤷‍♂️ ... sorry I can't remember. Guess I was just in the right place at the right time to get the new ID by snail mail. All the stars lined up as they say.

All things said, as far as I know, the old ID is still good for the time being ... unless you activate the new USID. Only then, the old card is supposed to be void.

They advise online to cut the old ID card up like you would an expired credit card ... once the new USID card is activated.
But until I use the new card a couple of times where military ID is required, I'm hanging onto the old card in a safe place.

Retired military has some outstandingly good benefits ... apparently good photos aren't one of them  :ROFLMAO:

When I went on the site a while back, found out my card was way pass the time limit.
(had it since I retired in 1994)
Made an appointment with the local office and got both our cards updated.

Remember, your retired military ID is good for the new 'REAL ID' thing coming up.

@Feelslikefar ... think I found what you're talking about. Here in Alabama it's called a Star ID ...

What Alabama has to say about it ...
"The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is extending the enforcement deadline for the REAL ID (called STAR ID in Alabama) to May 7, 2025, in response to COVID-19. However, STAR IDs will still be available for issuance after May 7, 2025, at an ALEA Examining Office." ... Star ID

And you're right, the Military ID can be used as part of the ID verification process.
In Alabama, we have to present 4 forms of identification for Star verification.
Link to acceptable documents: Star ID Document List

After ID is verified, a Star is placed in the upper left corner of an Alabama driver's license to prove ID verification performed.

I'm not worried about getting a REAL ID (Star ID) because as I understand it, it's only required for commercial plane flight boarding. I don't plan on flying anywhere any time soon.

Glad you found it, just wanted to get that info out there.

Along with my retired card, I always carry my Service-Connected VA card mainly because it has a better picture.
Rarely get asked for it at the VA, they just ask for the 'Last 4' of SS number.

So much looks oh so wrong with the Card.
The Colored card really weird fake looks a little blurry.
All that cheap wavy US of America B.S.
Any real ID should be exact, very clear, focus and not a cheap copy imprint.
Magnify to 500, see what I mean looking at the 2 cards. The bottom one looks a fake.

Are we sure the DOD exists? Am thinking more fraud.
Top brass all fired. Seems a fishy deal?
More Ai thievery of data?

I have an exam this Mon at VA and same thing I was there in person some months ago was only asked for last 4 .

I see your edit, so again
If you could just scoot along back to the plantation before it gets dark, that'd be great.

But yes, the photos posted look fake and would never work as a military ID
The card in my hand with the holograms and other safety / security features would though.

Please put your gloves on.

OK I',, ignore your posts.

IMG_0244.jpegYour card resembles this one?
Picture in focus and clear to read stuff. The other looks fake.

CLUE: The only fake military ID card posted in this thread is the sample YOU posted.
I already said I brushed out personal info in the photos for online security. Only altering I did.
Oh and let's see what your military ID looks like. Oh wait.
Class dismissed and take whatever freakin' agenda you have with you. Thanks

Mine is a blueish tint because that is the tint color for retirees
Mine does not say Geneva Conventions Identification Card because I'm no longer active duty
I'm retired and the photo was taken long after military retirement, when I turned 65, transitioned to Tricare For Life medical coverage, and was required to get a new card ... which is actually the old one in the OP.
They used that old photo taken 7yrs ago (using lowest bidder government photo equipment in person at an actual ID Card Office on base) and which had been saved to DEERS, to produce my new USID card.
That way they could mail me a new USID card and not need me to go to the ID Card Office in person.
Military Retired ... why my facial hair and attire is not within military grooming or uniform standards
The solid blue block beneath my picture in the photo is where I removed my name for online security purposes

Most who visit and post in this sub-forum need none of that explanation ... others do I guess.

@papa tiger ... does that still look like a fake military ID to you? My guess is you will say yes it does.
You brought insults to me, some kind of off topic political agenda, and stepped on my thread.
You owe me an apology sports fan. Pretty sure I can't call you shipmate

I was only worried that you may have been duped with a fake card. Your boat has sailed already.
Most likely you should have never showed your picture of you on card but who cares it's your thing!
Your picture still is not in focus like the John Doe Similar card from 2022 blown up 500.
Most of the Clerks will probably accept it.

Not man enough to apologize when done wrong. Got it. Like a paper tiger.
And that was not your point or concern coming and posting in this thread.
Tell that to someone who doesn't recognize your political and insulting posts.
Apparently you've never even been in the military never held a military ID and contributed nothing here.
I explained why the picture wasn't in focus and those who actually have or had military IDs know that is often the case.
Purchase of equipment goes to the lowest bidder. What a waste talking to you is.
The dead fish is stinking
