Yesterday when I bough some groceries there was a Kiwanis Club guy collecting for charity. I dropped in a $5 bill, but it seemed like he wasn't taking in much despite the day having turned very nice.

Are people not carrying cash, or have they gotten more "flinty" about such appeals?

Most people have stopped carrying cash... but then people's budget have all tightened so much we can't afford every so called charity that asks... and some of us don't give at all knowing how much we're lining the pockets of the fat cats

here in the UK we're bombarded on TV by charites begging for money ... it's a disgrace IMO...

G'mornin folks....

Another glorious sunny morning... 🌞 🌞 🌞

Can't plan anything for the day until I know if the Gardeners are coming to fit the fence panels

Have a good day whatever you're today

Good morning. Had to rewatch 45 minutes of Beyond the Gates to get to the last 15 minutes which were interrupted yesterday due to breaking news about that horrific helicopter crash. At 8:05 will watch the latest Bill Maher who is on too late at night for me to watch live.
Last night son sent me lovely pictures from beautiful Oslo. So exotic. A child's playground with huge maze and artistic statues. Lovely village in background. Love our technology which make me feel like I am on vacation too.
In great mood so far this morning.....rainy day again today. May stay home.....read, watch White Lotus, spend day here with you wonderful people.

Just a nitpicky question... we got the news of that Horrific Helicopter crash as soon as it happened 2 days ago.... how come you didn't get the news until yesterday ?

@hollydolly Same here with the charities begging for donations via TV. I swear that they all want "just" $19/month. Mmhmm. Yesterday I counted five different ones that want $19/month. It wouldn't take long to spend a heckuva lot of money at that rate. And they're all going to send me something...a t-shirt, a blanket, whatever...advertising that I donated. Nope.

It's going to be a sunny but sort of cool day today. As soon as it's daylight, I'm going out to plant the (Forsooth!) forsythia :).

We're going out for brunch to celebrate DGD's 25th birthday. She and DD will spend the rest of the day racing around cleaning and cooking for DGD's party tonight. DD and DSIL are going out, probably dinner and a movie. I'm staying home since The Hovel is separated enough from the rest of the house that their partying won't bother me nor I them.

Had to laugh at DGD...party starts early IMO (at 7) and only goes on until around 10. I asked why so early on a Saturday night. "Gramma! We're not kids anymore and don't wait to start partying until 10. We've outgrown that stuff." LOL!!!

DGS's new(est) GF is coming, too. Tell you what: this time I'm not getting attached at all. Nope. I don't care how nice she is, I'm going to keep my distance. Tired of spending months/years getting to know his GF-of-the-moment only to have him dump her. He's fickle and only keeps them around while he's checking out the next one. The GFs last as long as it takes for him to cheat enough to get caught. Argh!

@Georgiagranny ..yep that same £19 is asked for here..damn cheek... but at least they offer you something.. they don't here... except a picture of the Zebra every 6 months that you've just adopted..in the Serengeti... ...or the Brown bear... or the African child who was born to an Aids infected mother ....

Africa has 36 countries.. some are very rich countries... why are they asking any of us in the west for money ?..well the truth is they do... and they ask of all the western countries too...
If even every 100th person in Germany, Italy , Norway , Sweden, Denamrk, Holland, Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, Every town in Canada and the USA... Spain, Brazil, China.. Japan, 36 countries in Africa.. and 10,000 towns in other countries , donated money every month.. these so called charities would be Billionaires, and no animal or child would need help...... but the truth is that the vast majority of the money donated doesn't go anywhere near those who need help... and the charity fat cats are the Billionaires...

I can tell you all this because after I retired from TV & Film production.. I went to work as an Area Manager for an International Charity so I know a little of what goes behind the scenes

off my soapbox now....

Happy Birthday to your DGD...

It's my DD's birthday tomorrow.. shell be 49 years old... seems like just 5 minutes ago I was that age..

I'm not seeing begging ads like those. But I do see plenty of offensive ads for things like medications intended to conceal the symptoms of HIV so you can spread it to more partners.
we don't get adverts like that. Nothing stronger than OTC meds are permitted to be advertised on our Channels...

Pepper, my friend, don't ever feel bad or scold yourself about worrying over your loved ones. Yesterday my daughter was driving DGS to school and stopped well back from a red light because there were train tracks ahead. DGS sat directly behind her.

A car ran the red light, hit a truck, caromed off the truck, slammed into her, then hit the car behind her. What would have been a tragedy 25 years ago when cars were less safely built, was not, thank heavens. But it serves a reminder that we can't always see what will unfold 30 seconds from now, sometimes not even 5 seconds.

The driver behind her had a dashcam that showed her and his car getting hit. She sent me the video, but it seems I can't upload it here because it's an mp4. Trust me, it's unnerving to watch when it's your family in the car.

Worrying over the well-being of our loved ones is the small price we pay for having them in our lives. ❤️

Nobody involved in the accident was hurt - a miracle - and all are fully insured. DD's car is fixable, she's already gotten a rental, and she & DGS are not overly sore this morning.

How awful. I'm so relieved they are ok. 🫂

Try to get into WalMart without someone approaching you. No matter what store be it grocery or pet or fashion has the "may we round up", " will you please".
We have several cases of good wet cat food going to a local fostering group every month. Hopefully the cats get it.

Happy Saturday everyone. I could hardly believe my eyes this morning- it had snowed overnight! I was up and down several times during the night and I heard the rain but I didn't look outside so I didn't see any snow. I was so surprised at 7:45 this morning. There wasn't much.

After my doctor appointment yesterday I went to Aldi for what I thought was gonna be just a few things. I ended up spending $78.... I did buy salmon and a package of lean ground beef But I didn't need any other meats except for a pound of sliced ham for sandwiches. I bought four bars of chocolate because the prices are going up they're going to get us on our favorite things...... if they can't get us on toilet paper anymore they'll get us on our coffee and our chocolate. I have enough coffee I think for a while but you know it adds up. Bread and cereal and blah blah blah.

I was craving eggs. Now, I'm not a big egg eater. I like them once in a while especially hard boiled with mayonnaise or scrambled but I haven't eaten eggs in a long time so I was going to buy a dozen and they were they were gone! The regular ones were gone but the cage free organic eggs of those, were a few so I paid over $5 for a dozen eggs! It's unbelievable. I know it's worse in some places. So last night for supper I made a three-egg cheese omelet with chopped green onion. I couldn't finish it and I couldn't give to the dog because of the onion so I guess I wasted an egg.

This morning I cooked the ground beef in a frying pan; there was just about a pound, just plain. Half will be for my dog and the other half I'll make some kind of chili for myself and freeze the rest of the chili.

Enjoy the weekend!

Got SO out of the house for his play date at the crack of insanity. The difference between boys and toys - size of their feet and cost of their toys. A true statement!

60 Zinnas and 30 Marigolds are in individual pots waiting to go in the ground after next weeks bad weather is gone. Companion plants for vegetables.

Mumsy was nice to me yesterday. She had gotten all the attention she craved during the day. The comment that she has to be careful with her money has me concerned. Things are well between her and her daughter right now so not the time to ask questions but keep looking for clues.

They managed to go through 1.500 cookies in three mornings! OK, back to the kitchen! SO brought me a present from The Guys - a smoked chicken, grilled corn and enough potatoe salad to keep me happy for a week. Tonight I will get chicken fried chicken and the trimmings. Cook asked if I will come by as he knows I do not eat chicken fried steak. No - so I will get a to go bag. He owns a small restaurant which serves the best chicken fried steak in town. Pop it in the airfryer and have at it!

Now I have to call a dear friend and morning walk buddy in Alabama. Last April she lost her brother in law, a sister in law, a nephew and her husband. He came home from work, sat down and was gone. She is a strong woman and holding a family of 12 "our kids" and grandkids together. We have been each other's sounding boards even after we moved. Give me strength. My problems are trivial compared to hers.

Oh what a muggy day it is today...68 %.. it feels heavy in the air.. ...... making me feel really tired, but I can't have a sleep because of the gardener coming in about an hour or 2..

we're supposed to get rain tomorrow at some time,... which will be the first rains we've had in several weeks

Good Saturday morning to the Happy, Shiny people of SF! April 12th. Hope all have a lovely day!

I'm feeling much better; the cold was short-lived and is apparently doing me a solid by not settling into my chest this time! It did, however, cost me a Thursday with infant GS and a Friday with Toddler GS, and I'm a little bitter about that. Maybe today with TGS.🤞

If no TGS today, DH & I will count in apparel for a couple of hours, then skip tomorrow and go back to it Monday. He filled his truck with 26 cartons and took them to embroidery Thursday morning, but UPS & USPS delivered at least another 30 between Thurs afternoon & yesterday, plus more are coming next week. The living room and foyer will continue to resemble a warehouse for a while. It's not a sacrifice, since we rarely use our living room outside of gatherings. 🤷‍♀️

All told, this order will be about 150 cartons.

Family & friends are well familiar with the rhythms of our business. When they first walk in the they gasp for a second then smile, say, "Guess it's that time of year again already," and sail right past the boxes.

When looking at your photo of the boxes I was thinking how much fun the littles would have pretending it was a fort to run in and out of.
