The Eagles at Big Bear are tending new eggs.

Last year Jackie and Shadow, the eagles at Big Bear, were disappointed when no eggs hatched. This year there are three new eggs in the nest.
We hope for the best for the eagles and all their fans.

We had some nesting nearby some years ago. They displaced the blue herons for a few years, then the eagles moved elsewhere. After some time, the herons came back.

One thing I've always found striking is how rough and robust the nests of eagles and ospreys are. Despite snaggy appearances, they're serviceable and comfortable for the parents & the hatchlings. Strong-looking too.

Just checked in at Big Bear. Great news! Jackie and Shadow welcomed their 3rd hatchling today. What a nice surprise!

I just heard that one of the eaglets didn't make it. So glad they still have two little ones.

The eaglets are getting big. I hadn't looked in in a while. I don't think they fly yet. I will check it out.

The comments at Big Bear are turned off now. Maybe I can catch them tomorrow and get the scoop.

The babies looked huge until mama returned and she is much bigger. They are dark colored and sometimes blend in with the twigs of the nest. One of them was flapping his/her wings but not going anywhere just yet.
I was told by a nature conservationist that the eaglets will flap their wings to exercise them and build muscle. At some point, they may start jumping a bit while flapping their wings in preparation for when they take their first flight. Won't that be something?
