I may be getting a cat

My neighbor just called and said some other neighbors are moving. They have an 8 year old cat they can't take with them. He wanted to know if I'd be willing to adopt it. I said I would be interested. I am waiting to hear back on this.

Yes.
My friends' cats like to climb, and they like to knock things off shelves. One likes to shred curtains! (they got rid of all their curtains and kept the cat)

Hopefully not much, but even older cats can have a rare bout of orneriness occasionally. Not like a young one though.

Meet the cat at their house and then have it over for the day to yours. Don’t commit to anything until you learn its’ personality.

From what I was told, I don't think I have the time to do that. I was going to ask for a "trial period", but the neighbor I talked with said the other neighbors are moving "very soon." A few days ago I saw a lot of cars there being loaded with boxes of things.

I don't know what accessories, if any, come with the cat. I may have to buy cat food and a bag of litter.

I agree completely. It sounds like a perfect match. I also hope Debbie takes the cat and they live happily ever after.

I am a little concerned about an 8 year old cat. That's just about the time they start developing health problems.

Do not judge a cat too harshly for early behavior. From the cat’s perspective they have been abducted and held in some strange place. Time and love fixes alot

It is barely an adult. Do damage? Not intentionally but things do happen.

Is that what you aare hoping? The cat is your responsibility! Food, water, shelter, care, vet. You cannot close the door and say "it got out".

I haven't spoken directly to the owners. Another neighbor is acting as a go-between since he has my phone number.

The neighbors that have the cat just paid a call. They said it wasn't really their cat, it belonged to the homeowner who recently passed away. The guy it was his father so probably why the house is being sold. It wasn't their house. They just stopped in every day on a wellness visit.

I asked if it was a "special needs" cat or it had any health issues. They said it was "a little overweight". I added that I couldn't possibly take it until after garage sale weekend and they said that was okay. They invited me over to meet the cat and they would be there most of the day. I may go over later.
