What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

I love the things you say about film, esp. noir. Like, I didn't know Dalton Trumbo wrote the movie; I doubt it even credited him. Did you ever see Woody Allen's movie about this very topic, The Front? Great flick. Also I too thought it odd that Van Heflin was playing that part.
For a few minutes I couldn't recall a Woody Allen film of that name. Then I realized that he was an actor in the 1976 film-- not a writer or director.

TBH I don't remember much about the picture other than it's obvious pearl clutching about the blacklist. I'm actually pretty sympathetic to HUAC and to other anti-communist efforts of that era. Many people don't realize that the blacklist was instituted by the Hollywood studios, not the government. As it turns out, their purges didn't work...;)

My son, honorary daughter and I went to see Sinners yesterday. I was anxious to see it because people I know and those I don't were raving about it on social media. After being asked what we thought of the movie (we weren't together at the time), my son and I both described the movie with one word.... "interesting". Then we further discussed elements of the movie that we thought were very well done. The three of us enjoyed the film. I hadn't watched the trailers so it wasn't quite what I expected, but I don't want to say much else, in case anyone wants to see it.

Was looking at your video , that movie looks seriously scary .

Ugh. I bit and watched 'Woman of the Hour' on Netflix. Based on a true story.
I guess Gen Z won't notice that some of the mannerisms were not of the seventies. It was OK, just OK.
I'll have to try some of your suggestions.

I normally don't do horror films--god knows there's enuf horror in the world without adding more--but I'm intrigued by this one, from stuff people have said, and given it's by the creator of Black Panther.

The Maltese Falcon 1941
I own the DVD.

Haven't seen it in years. The last time I watched it was with my son who's reaction was "great movie". He was amazed.
I was glad he could enjoy it. He likes today's movies so there was the chance he wouldn't like it even though I told him it was one of the best movies ever made (Along with Casablanca).

I agree that "Falcon" is a great film. It's generally considered to be the start of the noir movement in Hollywood. The acting and dialogue are flawless. And Bogart single-handedly introduced the private eye via Sam Spade as a tough as nails, wisecracking shamus who lived simply by his own morality-- which wasn't too strict.... That personality is still in use today.

There's a ton of dialogue in that movie. It had to be hard work for the main actors. I have to watch it with the subtitles on so I can get all the details right.

Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)

Or you could call it "Mother, Daughter, Baggage" :ROFLMAO:

Another movie using the "multiverse" concept. Might be too trippy and thus confusing for some. Science fiction in the "Matrix" vein?

Older Chinese American woman with a young adult daughter. Strained relationship. Then things go nuts.

I'm 90 years old. The last movie I watched was "Gone with the Wind."
And a great movie it was! Considered by many to be one of the greatest ever made, and one of the most seen films of all time.

It made a resurgence in the late 1940s, which may have been when you saw it. I saw it when it was re-released in the mid 1950s. I didn't understand a lot of the adult stuff, and I wondered why all the ladies were weeping into their handkerchiefs.

I watched it, but it was way too frenetic for me. It's likely best appreciated (and followed) by young people who have had several cups of espresso coffee, and maybe an upper or two...

The Amateur is still at the theater. It held my attention very well. It had a creative story line, although the premise is certainly not new.

I watched the Bollywood movie, Veer-Zaara. It’s my favorite Bollywood movie. A romance between an Indian man and a Pakistani woman.
The fighting between the 2 countries brought it to mind and I watched it for the tenth time. It’s melodramatic, beautiful, colorful. I love the singing and dancing and it features top Bollywood stars.
I just love Bollywood movies!

I love Indian movies, so thanks for this tip.

The Asphalt Jungle 1950
Good movie. Some good performances except by Marilyn Monroe who was still taking small roles in movies at the time.
I remember seeing that at the theater. Goodness! I would have been seven years old. Probably not good for kids that age. But the movie theater was just a block from my house, so most Saturdays, my parent's just let me go. It was 25 cents for an afternoon double feature. I had no idea Marilyn Monroe was in that movie. Probably didn't know who she was. I remember being emotionally affected by the movie, not in a good way. I should find it and watch it again. I like looking up these old films I remember from my youth and seeing if they were as powerful as I once thought. I don't think they ever are. Still, I consider them classics.

I got this film from the library after reading someone's recommendation on here.

I didn't find it emotionally stirring. I felt that it was an adventure for the viewer who could remain an uninvolved spectator. It was more like watching Perry Mason.

Marilyn's role was a secondary character to the plot and she had very little screen time.

It's highly rated on IMDB.

I was confused. I don't think I ever saw this movie. I saw something called Blackboard Jungle, and thought that's what you were talking about.

That's the truth. When I read someone's recommendation I immediately thought of Blackboard Jungle.

But no, this is a caper film. A recently released convict develops a plan to break into a bank vault and steal a million dollars worth of jewels.
