How long do you intend to keep your present car?

My car turned 13 in February.

I’m waiting to see if my vision is good enough to renew my license in March.

If I pass the eye exam and get a cautiously optimistic report from my eye surgeon, I’ll buy a new car in the spring.

If not, I’ll keep this one until it needs some major repairs and explore other transportation options.

We bought a new Hyundai Tucson hybrid a couple of years ago, which is mine. Ron has a 15 year old F150 which doesn’t get driven as much as my car.

We hope to drive both vehicles till we’re no longer able to drive, but given that I’m still working and want to co time for as long as I can, we may possibly have to replace the Hyundai at some point in the future because I put a lot of miles in it driving to and fro. It already has 65,000 miles on it.

Our 1997 VW Golf that we bought brand new is absolutely bullet proof. Twenty-eight years, two hundred thousand miles and still going strong. To be fair though, it has lived a life in a heated garage with a seventy-eight year old, vintage MG, it has always had it's service regularly and any faults or repairs have always been corrected. The longest that we have ever had a car previously was eight years and that was a fabulous series two BMW.

I've got an old 1997 Dodge Dakota, in good shape, with about 115K miles on it...half of which I put on during my last 3 or 5 years at work. I plan to keep it forever, as it has 4WD, and comes in handy if we have to go somewhere in bad weather. Our other vehicle is a 2006 Impala that just turned 100K miles...also in good shape. I'm watching the car markets...as the tariffs begin to kick in...and if prices don't skyrocket, we may trade the impala in for a new compact SUV that should last us for the rest of our driving lives.

I've got one of those also. I bought it used dirt cheap and have to take to the mechanic every now and then, but It's very limited use, only when I need it. I might keep it forever, however far away forever is for me. I'll be done with it when the next trip to the mechanic is $ more than what it's worth, and it ain't worth much, so who knows. Then I'll give it to NPR for their auto donation plan, which they use to support programming. It might give them two hours more programming.
