I'm back. It got too warm outside so I gave up on iris bulbs for today. There aren't a whole lot left...maybe I can tomorrow. When the bulbs started getting pulled up, I gave away lots of big trash sacks full of them. The ones that got pulled up today have been thrown out in a sunny part of the side yard. Maybe they'll grow and bloom next spring.

And the garden? It has to wait, too. Tomorrow's another (sunny) day. The lawn needs to be mowed, but it's still too wet. Maybe that will get done tomorrow. Maybe.

The rest of today will probably be spent vegging in front of, in Newton Minnow's words, "that vast wasteland." Of course, I'll only watch educational things to expand my mind, right? Like murder shows.

DD has WFH stuff to finish up so it's unlikely that we'll be visiting the garden center(s). Drat. The employees will get lonely without us! And Clarence! Whatever will happen with Clarence? Not that there's much space left to plant anything.
 
It's almost 4.30pm..I waited in for the gardener, and I've just had a text to ask if he can come tomorrow night instead.. This is the 2nd time in a row he's let me down.. so I told no he can't come, I need someone I can rely on..I told him I'll do my own mowing today, and in future I'll get someone else...

It might sound brutal, but twice I've caught him lying to me when he said he was somewhere else.. and twice he's let me down..I'm not going to be made to feel like a cash cow that he can come and work whenever it pleases him..I pay him, to come when I ask him to come... so he's had his chances.. time for me to find someone else.
 

Today started off fine and sunny, so off to Fraserburgh for a walk on the beach. This was the day for their vintage car show, which probably explains why the beach was deserted. Had a good walk and then stopped in to Tesco for some groceries. Sunday is the main shopping day and so the shop was packed. Then it started to pour, so we didn't mind hanging around inside till the rain stopped. Not much fun for the vintage rally. My village has a 'steam and vintage' rally later in the summer.

Not much gardening today. Watered and fed the tomatoes and other plants in the polytunnel. They're coming on well and we've started to pick the courgettes. Cooking one of my favourite chicken dishes this evening. The whole bird is cooked breast side down in cider, apples and celery and the sauce then thickened with egg and cream. Hundreds of delicious calories.

Yesterday was a clean up at the lake saturday n I slept in too. Its was a 10 am call…. :cool:
High 70’s / low 80’s forcasted today here, but like humidity is too!

Golf carts are ready for later this afternoon. fun in the fresh air too!
Next Saturday evening is live entertainment at the beach with lots of Pontoon Boats.

Yes I said he could come..because I'd rather he did the hedges than me because of my sore arm.. but anyway.. he was here within 5minutes of his text.. just goes to show... you would n't believe his excuse... he said he was feeding the baby, and used the phone voice text and it mistook him saying he'd be around in 1/2 an hour, to ''could he come tomorrow night''....lol.. really he think we're all as thick as he is...:ROFLMAO:


So he's trying to butter me up now, he's taken my old mower away which save me having to take it to the recycle centre.. he'll do it up and sell it no doubt .. and tomorrow he's coming back to cut back my Laurel hedge which is really HUGE.. 60 feet x 30 feet approx


Anyway I had a talk with him, he now knows , one more time and he's off the job..

While he was here my neighbour brought me a huge dinner round.. you should have seen his face..when he saw it.. :D

Just so you can get an idea of the size of this, the 2 desserts are on a Dinner plate... and they're dusted with icing sugar ..they will last me a week...

A couple of days ago I heard a "whomp" outside, and wheeled to see the shadow of a bird flying away.

Today I heard the "whomp" again, and then a couple of minutes later "WHOMP" and a blast of wind at my ear. This time I saw the culprit.

Have you ever heard of a Bluejay being so aggressive? I assume it has a nest nearby but I wasn't doing anything that seems aggressive toward the bird and I have no idea where said nest might be.

Planned to update info for my wife & sons.

Rewrote by hand all the info my wife & sons need to know about finacial assets, home upkeep, bank & credit union access, credit card account number, utility account numbers. A lot has changed since 2013 I've adjusted some of the info over the years but I wanted to make sure I had everything right.

Done.
 
On my early morning walk at 6:50 temp was 53, with the sun shining as I walked around building twice a before breakfast
Marcia picked me up at 10 to our church service at 10:30. We were talking before service started, she told me after worship& brunch would take me to Best Buy to look at TV's.
Afterwards, we drove to Amherst location{ suburb of Buffalo,where I have my account} I wanted to buy a new TV as an anniversary gift to myself for living here at Gates I've had my old TV for 10 yrs, 20 inch screen time for a new one. The salesperson, Colin was wonderful & very helpful. I was impressed by how clear the TV screen he showed me compared to my old one. I bought a Samsung 32 inch 4K QLED TV. The ,Geek Squad guy will be coming Weds,set it up take away my old TV. Who knows if I'll ever leave my apt LOL!

It's amazing how when you feel poorly, and you've not managed a shower or bath for a day or 2, and the pain is getting you down...just how much better you feel once you're clean and the medication is easing the pain... and you feel human again...
 
I was scheduled for a medical procedure this Friday but the insurer denied the request. It was resubmitted and I got an email yesterday saying it is a go. Does it need to be rescheduled or is the old slot good? I will call tomorrow.

This is important because it is necessary before a Watchman implant in a couple of weeks. The Watchman should allow me to stop taking Xarelto after 90 days. That will save me more than $500. each month. Don't yet know the cost of these procedures. One thing at a time.

Some years ago, in the Spring, my husband was attacked by a Bluejay. The bird drew blood on the crown of his head and his forehead, too. It was a blessing the bird didn't cut my husband's eyes. The damage left scars.

So, yes, from personal experience, have seen male Bluejays be very aggressive. They also covered the car in poo.

I found a tip to put aluminum foil on the car windows (inside) to help keep the birds away. They said put up mirrors, too, thinking the Bluejays would think their reflection would look like another jay and they would back off. I don't know if that works, I didn't try the mirrors. The foil did help.

It was a few weeks before the Bluejays calmed down, I guess it was mating season when they were diving and attacking anything- people and animals in their territory.

Tomorrow my wife and I will drive about 1 1/2 hours to Newport Beach where the family of my younger daughter is camping.

Here in the Inland Empire the temperatures hover around 100 degrees, while at the coast it's around 70. Those folks don't even
have air-conditioning, while for us it's a life necessity.

The only way to the beach is using Freeway 91. We'll leave after the morning rush hour and come home before the evening
rush. Even though this Freeway has 14 lanes between Corona, through the Santa Ana Canyon, to Santa Ana Hills, during peak
hour traffic, it's more stop than go. BTW, "Freeway" is a misnomer because the inner four lanes are for pay. You have to buy
a responder and pre-pay money that is then deducted while driving through the electronic barrier. But a car with three or more
persons can use the "for pay" lanes for free.

At the campground. My daughter just sent me these pictures. My grandson sleeps with his own Beagle puppy "Zero." He named
the puppy after his favorite cartoon character.

The "Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina" campground is at the top, just a little bit below and left from the red dot.
The campground is surrounding a small lagoon. --- To the right, within an oblong circle road, is the Fashion Island Mall which
my wife, I bet, wants to see. She is a shopaholic but luckily mostly window shopping. --- Way below the campground and over
a bridge is the charming Balboa Island, from where with a car ferry we'll go and visit the Newport Beach Peninsula with two
piers. Near the ferry boat landing on the Peninsula leaves the large catamaran ferry to Catalina Island located 30 miles offshore.

The campground is surrounding a small lagoon and has a number of recreational facilities. My grandson is bicycling and climbing here.

Sunday, I cleaned and straightened up the kitchen, bathroom and living/dining room. I finally got around to putting a little shine on my living/dining room floor using Quick Shine. It causes a sheen, rather than a highly polished look when using one coat. I have the original vinyl tile floors that were here when I moved in going on 54 years ago and they still look pretty decent. I was a little tired when I got finished. Good thing I didn't have to cook today.

All this cleaning was because my Honorary Son #3 came over for a lesson on music production and to see what my instrument is capable of. One of the songs I played for him was what I wrote for my son when he was a little boy. I want a "rap" for the bridge of the song and being a poet, HS#3 is perfect for that. HS#2, who I originally wanted, dropped the ball so he's been "fired". :LOL: I also wanted HS#3 to hear all types of music (mine and by others), so we listened to a few genres and wound up dancing to one with an infectious beat (at my urging, cause he claimed he has two left feet).

He and my son bonded more, remarking that blaming HS#3 for knocking hard on the door (which my son did when they both got here at the same time) was just like real siblings do. I said yes, the older brother blaming the younger one. Also, HS#3 got more production tips from my son. It was a fun, enlightening evening. Icing on the cake... I got to see my Honorary Daughter, who stopped by to pick up something. I played the MP3 of the track HS#3 and I are collaborating on. She loved it and we haven't even mixed it yet. Got my two hugs from her, 2 from HS#3 and of course, from my son. I love it ! These young-uns are helping to keep me young! 😀
