I Hate Gardening -- Do you?

There, I said it. It took me two hours to get the little weeds out from between the paving stones in my back garden. My nails are filthy and broken. Now the hydrangeas look droopy. Do I have to dead head them? Who the heck knows? We never sit out there because it's hotter than a furnace most of the time. I never know what to do and I don't want to do it when it has to be done.

I know this is sacrilege to many SFers but perhaps there is someone out there who shares my sentiments.

I love the idea of gardening, but am terrible at actual gardening, which I admit is because I don't enjoy it.

I peruse Pinterest and other sites looking at pictures of beautiful container gardens and making grand plans. But it's my husband, gods love him, who, once I've had a little fun putting seeds in pots and forgetting about them, actually does the gardening.

If it wasn't for him, we would just have buckets of dead seedlings on the deck every summer.

I use Roundup to kill weeds so no pulling. If you accidentally get it on the grass, the grass will eventually grow back.

I pay a company to mow. All I do is trim some hedges once a week in the morning before it gets too hot. Otherwise, no garden here, and no trees on my lot. There were a couple of trees - one died, the other could have endangered the house, so I had them both removed and don't want anymore trees. They eventually have to be trimmed back or they scrape against the roof.

I have no interest in the yard except for wanting it neat and maintained. I have a private covered patio right outside my bedroom and I like to sit out there, hear the birds, and breathe some fresh air now and then, There are a few pots of plants out there and artificial flowers - works for me, and since I'm the only one living here, that's all that matters.

I do all my gardening in the grocery produce department.

The patch on the south side of my house has all gone to weeds. The milkweed in not an attractive plant, unless you're a Monarch butterfly. I only leave them alone because of that, but I may nip the pods before they go to seed this year some they don't re-sow themselves. There's some thorny vine that has runners all over the place. What a chore to get those! I have to wear thick gloves. The last time I tried to weed, I was dizzy and out-of-sorts for a few hours. The only welcome plant in this area is the catnip.

I, too, love the idea of gardening. It's actual gardening I dislike. However my wife does not step in to save me, as her distaste for manual labor is even greater than mine. She is happy to bicycle 50 miles at a clip but will not pull a weed to save her life.

I hate it... but it's a necessary evil. I have a nice garden..I grow a few flowers in pots, beause I cannot stand all that dead heading, re-planting ''painting the forth road bridge'' kind of carry on, in that as soon you've finished painting one end you have to start again on the other, planting, weeding, deadheading, planting weeding, covering up for frost, spraying with insect repellent, .. watering, planting ...weeding..... none of that type of gardening appeals to me.. ... but 90 % of my garden are shrubs, trees, and hedges...

In the last year I've employed a local gardener ( actually he's a tree surgeon ).. who comes and cuts back and tops all the hedges... and if the grass needs mowing when he comes he does that too... but otherwise I do all the mowing, I don't mind it.. don't love it... but I do it beause I want all my lawns and gardens looking nice..

Oh I forgot , I do have my roses on trellises out front, but I clip them back regularly and that's all they seem to need..

To me there is nothing more rewarding than blooming flowers and yes it is challenging and hard work especially in the Texas heat but I get to be outside and it keeps me going even though I've had to cut way back and hire more help.

Golf, swimming, walking and bicycling all get me outside and keep me going. I tried growing tomatoes once and they were eaten by crows. Crows leave me alone when I play golf. God bless those who can figure out how to keep a nice garden.

I like gardening, but not lawn mowing and trimming.
I was the exact opposite. I disliked gardening, but I found mowing the lawn very peaceful and calming.

I miss it alot, but my wife was adamant that, after a heart attack nearly killed me, that I never cut the grass again. Or shovel the driveway, for that matter.

As far as gardening, I say I disliked it, but that's because I don't care at all about flowers and plants and bushes. My wife, however, loved it. So, I spent a lot of time digging holes and whatnot.

The worst part of gardening for me, though, was her figuring out where she wanted things planted. She knew where she was going to put something when she bought it at the garden center. But, on more than one occasion, two-three weeks later, she's say, "I want to move that plant over there" LOL. And I'd be digging more holes.

I swear, without exaggeration, there was this one bush, a low, sprawling, needle type thing that moved at least 5 times over the course of a couple years before she was finally happy with where it was.
