Each year on July 4, the United States celebrates Independence Day. This federal holiday commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

My youngest grandchild’s birthday is on July 4th. ❤️

I remember vividly how Paige had organized a 4th July get together at her house, even though she was fully 9 months pregnant, her due date was several days later.

She went into labor early that morning and had Milo shortly thereafter. It was a home birth, of course I was there, and rather than cancel the get together, she still wanted it if I was willing to be her stand in ..of course I was!

So shortly after she gave birth, the family arrived for a cookout and they got to meet their new family member all at the same time! ❤️

John Adams letter to Abigail concerning Congress's adoption of the Lee Resolution on July 2nd. He was a bit premature on his celebration date, as the DOI was not voted on until the 4th.

....But the Day is past. The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America.—I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.....

I've visited the gravesites of 11 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 5 alone in Christ Church cemetery in Philadelphia, where Benjamin Franklin is buried. Of course, Thomas Jefferson's at Monticello, the primary author of the DOI. I just love visiting historic places.
