Do you, or your neighbors shoot off fireworks for the 4TH, and other holidays?

Fire works are a staple on the 4th of July in the USA. And I guess Guy Fawkes Day in the UK(?), and whenever for the Aussies.

What do you think of your neighbors, who do?
And the reaction from pets to fireworks?

There is a city ordnance here banning fireworks but not really enforced unless someone calls the law on somebody.
Which I have done when the trashy rats across the street were setting off fireworks in the middle of the street right in front of my house.
My dog doesn't like fireworks and is reduced to shaking when they're going off.
The dog and I have to head to our safe spot ... the bed ... during fireworks, and thunder and lightening for that matter.

I'd just as soon people obey the law here and not set them off.
There is a military post just outside of town and they put on a fireworks display every year.
Go there and enjoy fireworks. DO NOT set them off right in front of my house. It harshes my calm.

They are not suppose to use the illegal ones that are loud and might set a house on fire. Danger to the users might happen, too. But, they do anyway. I am just glad it over the next day. Not as bad as it used to be in our neighborhood as some of the young ones have grown up.

We have a few down the street, but nothing huge.

The university is about a mile down the road and they have a big show at the football stadium.

Luckily, my dogs couldn't care less about fireworks, (or thunder). They'll look around a little for the really loud ones, but then just go back to sleep.

I used to like flying during Memorial Day or July 4. Flying over fireworks at night where towns or cities have large displays. I can’t remember what city it was, but I remember flying over one city that had like 5 or 6 displays going on. It may have been Miami or New York. They really look awesome from above them.

Yes, our neighbors do light off fireworks, including bottle rockets. When I had my dog, it drove her crazy. There were times when we would have to take her for a car or truck ride away from the area.

The majority of people around here don't and do not like all the noise. Unfortunately a very loud minority ruins the night for everyone nelse.
Same here. I don't have a problem with the small, fun-size ones, but some people here buy the industrial-grade stuff and set them off in residential neigborhoods.

It's a pretty dry and flammable area here to be setting off fireworks, but there is usually a fireworks display at on the high school ball field. A few people get drunk and fire their AR rifles, but they do that now and then anyway.

I enjoy seeing professional fireworks displays but have never felt good about the combination of beer, family, and fireworks at home.

Some years it gets pretty crazy and other years it is pretty quiet.

It amazes me how much some people now spend for elaborate home displays. All of the holidays seem to be amped up to the point where they no longer resemble the relatively humble celebrations that I enjoyed growing up.

I suppose that’s true for every generation.

There are some off in the distance, but don't know where.

An amusement park about 10 miles or less from where I live puts on a professional display each year. It's been many years since I've seen it but I remember they were really nice.

I do feel sorry for the dogs and cats or babies or anyone that has to suffer really loud, dangerous explosives too close to them.

I quit shooting them off after I turned 30. I preferred spending my money on alcohol, car repairs and gambling.

My neighbors did at times, but now with all fireworks sales banned in Vancouver, There's going to be a decline, still going to be shooting them off.

I'm still puzzled though. 40 years ago, I got a BJ Allen fireworks catalog. This is out of Ohio. We ordered a couple thousand worth, sold black market.

Why does such a state allow rockets, powerful explosives and huge fountains or tube cannons be sold, but another state freaks out? I'm sure they have fires in Ohio fireworks started, but they don't ban them.

Their building usually blow up.

Me....not any more. My neighbors? Oh, yes, on any occasion. They've already started and will build up to a crescendo on the 4th, tapering off for a couple of days afterward, as they find ones that they didn't remember they had.

It doesn't particularly bother me, but I'm glad I'm not dealing with a nervous dog.

I LOVE fireworks, the big displays. I can remember going down to the Detroit River one year, during the joint Windsor-Detroit festival to the fireworks that were publicized as the world's largest display ever. There were seven barges in the river shooting off fireworks for FOUR hours. We gave up after two when our ears started bleeding.....just kidding, but they did hurt for days.

The big yearly fireworks expo in Toronto was always incredible. That's where all the new and experimental rockets were shot off. There were some really magnificent special effects. I don't know if they hold that expo any more, but they did in the 1970's.

I used to have a neighbor who shot off fireworks for all the major summer holidays, like Saturdays. Those fireworks were grade A, like you'd get an "authorized" fireworks display. I don't know where he got them, nor the money to pay for them. The evening of the 4th was hard on my 3 cats. Lately, he's been subdued, no spectaculars like before.
