How do you invest your money?

How kind of you.
The truth can hurt when it applies to someone’s situation

Excuses are easy

Action is hard

An object at rest stays at rest

So it’s always easier to do nothing than something. einstein was correct about a lot things when he discovered that about atoms

40% Equities

40% Fixed Income

20% Cash and Equivalents
that is a comfortable retirement portfolio…..right now i do have a heavy cash position but that is because i am not comfortable with the current environment.

but i do have fairly sizable gold positions and long term treasuries to go with my equities.

i tend to also run 40% equities for the most part

Well. I usually invest $15=$45 a week into State lottery. Sometimes I go crazy and buy 5-10 $5 tickets.

Now, on a sense it's a joke, but in reality, what good does investing do for me, since I won't live to enjoy the rewards?

"How about leaving something for charity?" Some might say. If I should win the lottery, I'll remember them in my will.

Muslims are not supposed to invest in interesting payment instruments, so I have no bonds in my portfolio. We can, however receive dividends and capital gains. The more modern take on Riba (interest), considered harmful, is that we can receive interest on up to 5% of our assets. That being said, 84% of my portfolio is in dividend paying mutual funds, ETFs and only three stocks (NVDIA, Apple & Canon). The other 16% is in bank accounts (a majority of which pay no interest).

I have always shied away from the stock market. Remembering the crashes over the years. Many seniors lost many thousands of dollars just as they were about to retire.
Today I invested a 6 figure amount into a term deposit at 4.25% for 5 months.
I gave most of my money to my kids. I figured I would give them a head start. After all what I'm I going to do with it in the few years I have left.

Just the pitifully paid local savings acct and bonds through Vanguard.

Our bonds used to be very safe, but even they are in danger these days.
I never look at our Vanguard statements because worry doesn't help and if you keep your head in the sand long enough it might well go back up and meanwhile I've lived on in happy ignorance.

I have a brother who thinks like @mathjak107 and believes we're foolish and lazy not to hover over our money and take bigger risks. He has accumulated a lot of money, but he started with a good income in 1966 and had extra to invest. These days he spends a few hours every day watching one of those TV networks that keep a ticker-tape running at all times. I'm happy being an object at rest, staying at rest.
I placed all my money in stock shares of Amazon back in 1998. I made big bucks. Prior to that I had also placed all my money in a stock called Transitron 30 years before that and lost every penny.
I'm so happy for you, Mitch! I've never known anyone who got in on Amazon like that. I think you should go on vacation to Hawaii and drink Margaritas while you watch the hula girls.

Mostly through employer 401(k) plans. GE offered a generous plan with employer matching and GE stock purchase opportunities. This was during a time when GE was flying high and a series of stock splits increased investment value. I sold just before things started to go bad.

My last employer of over 25 years, also offered a well run plan with generous matching so I never felt the need to chase investments elsewhere.

Banks are like Stupid savings investment, not insured!
Debit cards, CC's are a good way to live, no cash, no Jugging.

Checks? sure, Bank is so low on employment it takes at least a 1/2 hour to do a drive thru.
Forget ATM's they get chained and towed off. Savings accounts are stupid penny banks.

Banking in the World is going to sink to bad and worse shortly.

Elders do not keep Cash on us. Jugging is the art of getting mugged.

Bank …I simply don’t trust anyone else ….We lost a substantial amount of cash by investing in a so called gold star investment company who was swindling 100’ of so called Mum and Dad investors

They claimed they invested in commercial properties….and our funds were safe

but it tuned out the only thing they were interested in was investing in huge homes / cars all in their wives or partners names of course:eek: ….and they were to Quote ….all good “living trustworthy people”:eek::eek:who were ( are) involved in a group called the Christadelphians religion
