My local shopping centre had two cash dispensing ATMs

It costs quite a bit to manintain an ATM and they have become a target for vandals and thieves in recent years.

With the relatively easy use of credit and debit cards for every day purchases there is little need for a merchant or shopping center to take on the headaches.

I go to my local bank’s ATM a couple times a year for cash and probably could get away without that if I started using money transfer apps like Venmo to exchange funds with family and friends.

The times they are a changin’.

I don't think I've ever used an ATM other than ones inside a bick & mortar bank building. Even those I rarely use because I almost never use cash. I was always suspicious that those ATM's at the variety store or where ever were somehow not really legit tied into a banking institution just because they tended to charge so much just to use them.

So did I before the pandemic.

I never had much cash when I was young and I enjoyed the feeling of having a comfortable stash at home within easy reach.

During the pandemic I spent down my stash and turned to plastic.

At this point in my life plastic makes more sense for a variety of reasons.
They call it Jugging here when they mug you after getting a wad of Cash at an ATM

I could pass on the Appps.

The only ATM's I use are the drive through ones at my credit union branches. If someone trys to mug me there I'll just floor it and run them over if I can. I also have a gun in my car so if I see someone suspicious looking approaching I'll be ready for them. One of the few advantages of living in a deep red stand your ground state.

I don't use an ATM often but on the off chance I need to use one when "out of the loop" and the ATM is out of my financial network ... no problem. The fee ... and there is always a fee ... is refunded by my credit union to my account. Yes you read that right, my credit union will refund any fee charged when I use an ATM that is out of the network. Totally unbelievable and appreciated that my credit union would do that. However, there is a monthly limit on how much they will reimburse or how many out of network transactions they will cover. I can't remember what the limit is and it's not a factor anyway, as I seldom use ATMs that charge a fee.

I have never heard of that. A bonus for sure.
