I've been watching this video.... I don't want to discuss the content of the video..I just want to know what are these buildings, does anyone know...

is this a rundown farm..or is this seperate housing of some type ..or what is this exactly?..I've been watching this video..since last night trying to work out what these buildings are ... can anyone tell me please

They appear to be HUD housing that were built for low income people. HUD was a government project to keep low income families from being homeless. HUD stands for Housing and Urban Development. Sometimes, they were called projects.

Oh I thought Projects were proper homes.. but in just in cheaper areas...

Not necessarily. President Johnson’s administration began building these structures to keep low income families from being pushed onto the streets. Sometimes, they are referred to as The Projects. Cities where they have been built oversee the administration of them. How they determine the rent, I am not sure.

We have some of these buildings in our city and also, some were later built in abandon buildings that were converted to apartments.

The pictures in the video of the homes are earlier buildings, which may have been built in the 60’s or 70’s. As time progressed, many of these projects were updated to look like small communities. We have about 100 of the type shown in the video, but also a building about 6 stories that was abandoned by an insurance company with several apartments inside.

thank you for that..that's something new I learned today.....

We have some locally that look a lot like those in the video.
They were originally military housing for the married guys and families.
This is a missile area and during WWII there was a base here.
The units in town are low rent apartments, almost a slum. The ones out where the base was used to house students when the Vo-Tech was active, now they are also low rent apartments.

Looks like an old “budget” roadside motel that was converted into a low income apartment complex by adding some small appliances.
Your assessment of them I tend to agree with as it seems from the debris outside what seems to be the front door may be the only door, as motel rooms only have one. Therefore they put their broken items out the only door.

@hollydolly That video was shot in Bunnell, Florida so most likely an old vacation apartment. It looks more like apartments than a motel. I am guessing built around 1950. It no doubt has seen people of all kinds and now just a run down place to exist.

If it is anything like the cement block migrant worker housing here, it was originally one room with just a partition by the toilet and shower. The kitchen had a sink and small counter, with a few cabinets and usually on the back wall by the bathroom. Concrete floors and flat roofs covered with roll roofing. They were built for a dime on the dollar.

there seems to be quite a few doors, which is what made me wonder what type of building it was. Whether an abndoned factory...or in fact low rise housing units of some type..

Thank you Deya, that sound very plausible.....the great thing about watching Youtube videos from outside my country...if I'm not already au fait with something I can come here and get a lot of very interesting and some very informative answers.

well no this picture are empty abandoned tenements which would be due for demoliton

I grew up in a tenement...in Scotland...in a very well to do area....
I found my trip to England interesting in all the styles of housing there, I loved the villages with the homes made from stones. We went to Blackburn to meet with a team mate and you could definitely tell the income differences of the people the the narrow tall brownstone buildings. I liked the ones that had the small yard in front much better than the ones directly on the sidewalk. The small yards I felt reflected the person a bit who lives there. York was a fascinating place, I walked the Promenade in Black Pool, had my fist shanty beer there which I actually liked. Had never had those before as I dislike beer. I enjoyed my time there.

Blackburn and Blackpool in the North of England are very very poor areas...I had no idea that Blackburn had any tenements..I know for sure Blackpool does not...

Mosst red sandstone buildings are in Scotland
