Books! How do you read and what do you read?

I'm currently reading a series by Peter Cawdron called 'First Contact'.

There are 34 standalone books all with a common theme of our first contact with aliens. They don't come in any particular order and I'm on my 4th just picked at random. Very well written action sci-fi.

FORGET ME NOT by Stacy Willingham

An investigative journalist,,,moves back home to care for mother.
When she over hears her mother on phone ,,saying 'I don't want her here'.
She tells her mother a lie ,packs up & leaves.

A job is offered the daughter as she wants to solve the death of her sister.
Lots of twists & turns keep you guessing.

Right now I'm listening to:

The Higher Frontier
By: Christopher L. Bennett
Narrated by: Robert Petkoff

It's a Star Trek book based on the original series. It's okay, but not nearly as engaging as the last four I listened to based on the original series, by Greg Cox, also narrated by Robert Petkoff. (He narrates most of the ST books).

I'm reading:

Demons and Roses (The Eternal Brides Series Book 1), by Beka Westrup
on the Kindle app on my android.

It's a paranormal romance about a woman whose perfectly awful husband dies and whose body is then immediately taken over by a demon who is apparently in love with the main character.

I'm about 30% through and it's pretty good so far. Not heart-pounding, yet, but good enough to keep reading. Interesting premise and I think there's more to this demon guy and, his love for the main character, that is going to be revealed soon.

The Wizard's Butler
by Nathan Lowell

For five grand a month and a million dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year.

They didn't tell him about the pixies.

Fresh story line, engaging characters, and vivid world building. It's quite the enjoyable read.

A book I bought for myself and friend, Alexei for Christmas, started reading this afternoon
"A Composer's Life: John Williams" by Tim Greiving who is arts journalist specializing in music in Los Angles
Williams is my #1 all time favorite film composer, this is the 1st biography about him.I knew some things about him, am sure will learn more as I read this

I have just bought The Mushroom Tapes, a book about the Erin Patterson murder trial written by three well known authors

I thought it would make a change from the podcasts and newspaper reports about the trial.

Paused, "Demons and Roses" in favor of, "Devil's Deal: A Dark Fantasy Romance (Jaga and the Devil Book 1), by Layla Fae.

Someone on the Reddit sub recommended it and I had to try it. Evidently, this is a story wherein the Devil himself falls in love (or obsession, I'm not sure) with the main character. I'm only a little way in, but it's good so far.

Still slogging my way through, The Higher Frontier, but almost finished. I don't know what it is about Bennet's writing. On the face, it's a good story with an interesting plot. But I'm finding it's barely holding my attention. Maybe it's character development, or lack of.

Other Peoples's Houses. by Clare Mackintosh

From the title one would expect folks talking about their homes.

Robbers are breaking into well to do peoples home in one area.

Stealing small items,,,until some is hurt.

Police are stuck on trying to learn the who & why of them.

A slow read as you may go back to reread something you missed.

I just finished Gone Before Goodbye, written by Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben. It was among my book club choices, and I was more than a little skeptical but found it riveting. Read it in a day and a half - could barely put it down.
I've just looked this up and it does look like a good read. Pleased to see that Reese Witherspoon does the audio version. If I do catch it - it will almost certainly be over audio.

This morning I finished "A Composer's Life : John Williams by Tim Greiving
It was fascinating portrait of Williams but it was too long at 556 pgs, should of condensed it to 250-300 pgs. Every time I learned what film score Williams was hired to create, the author kept giving too many details about the music, that was boring to me
I do recommend the book if you are a John Williams fan

I find this with a lot of biographies and autobiographies. Excessive inclusion of minor details quickly become a yawn.

I'm reading a book titled, "50", by Avery Corman who also wrote Kramer vs Kramer which was made into the Dustin Hoffman/Meryl Streep movie. Also, he wrote "Oh, God!".

He has a penchant for dialogue which can make reading vrry engaging.

Finally finished, the audio of, The Higher Frontier, by Christopher L. Bennet and have started, Spider-Man: Hostile Takeover, by David Liss. It's my first Marvel book and I'm enjoying it quite a bit it so far. Pete Cross is doing a good job with the narration.
