Having difficulty with images- unsure what the problem is

This occurs occasionally, whether I'm trying to upload .jpg or .png.
I've even put them in GIMP to scale the size down, but that doesn't help, either.

Would anyone know what the problem is?

That's a jpeg. Sometimes if I use the wrong setting on my phone, I think it's called motion, I have issues uploading a pic.

And sometimes the forum software is having a bad day and doesn't want to upload anything.

This is a desktop PC.
It could have something to do with forum software, I'll see what happens the next time I try.

In order to ask a meaningful question about hardware or software, an OP requesting help needs to provide more information than just relating one has a problem with image posting. Obviously, as long as the forum site is up and other members are not reporting whatever issue, an answer will be highly likely to have to do with your own device, your own application software, your own process of using or trying to use whatever, interfacing within the forum.

.png never loads for me. I change it to a .jpeg using Paint Shop Pro or the default image viewer that comes with linux mint, and then it will load. When something fails to load, the forum editor gives a message, "File is too big," but that is not the problem. I could reduce the image to the size of a postage stamp, and it still gives the same, and apparently the only, message it has. This confused me for a while, because size was never the problem.

Look at the large high resolution photos of many megabytes that Oy loads all the time. Size of the file is not the issue. Well that's what I think, anyway.

Unfortunately the many error messages appear to be random so one(me) never learns what the issue is other than the "pic is too big." In general I can modify pics to post but I often have to go through many revisions to make it load.

I think you might be right about size not being the problem. I kept getting the same message when trying to upload my avatar. I can be stubborn. Tried a third time and boom! There is was.

I've had that problem on occasion. I think it happens when there's something weird about the image format -- not the size. When that happens, just open it in GIMP and export it to new file. Just saving it won't work; you need to export it to a new file.

Yes, I know.. and it's [gimp] the only one I'm familiar with at all.
My Linux mint comes with something simply called "Image Viewer." It's mostly nothing more than a viewer, and has no serious image alteration capacity, but it does allow you to "Save As" with a limited capability of changing to just a couple of other file types. Jpeg, being one of them. Gimp is not listed in the my accessory inventory. It took me years to learn much of my 30 year old Paint Shop Pro functions, and I've only scratched the surface, so I mainly use that for photos. It won't work on Linux, but I have another computer dedicated to Windows.
