What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

On a recommendation from @JustDave in a thread about AI, I watched Ex-Machina last night. (Netflix)

An insight into some of what AI may have in store for us.

Following that, I watched two of the five episodes of What's Next: The Future with Bill Gates. (Netflix)
Explanations, history, benefits and warnings about AI and social media with Gates and plenty of other experts. I'm eager to see what the next three episodes will bring.

Whatever you think or feel about Gates, there's little denying that he is bright, well-versed in tech, and a forward thinker.
My opinion - this is well worth the time. I learned a surprising amount about AI (plenty of good along with the bad) and the dynamics/algorithms of social media last night (mostly bad, to be honest).

IMO it's one helluva performance by Russell Crowe as Herman Goring. If you would, let me know what you think after you've seen it.
When I was in Berlin there was a nazi incarcerated as the Only prisoner in Spandau Prison. It was eerie. I thought I remembered the prisoner as being Rudolf Hess but had to google it to make sure. It was. So. He escaped death.

I crossed into East Berlin several times. After one visit I was detained with no explanation and released six hours later with no explanation. I think the Russians in charge were just phucking with me because they could.

I was delighted that the East German people were so miserable. I was miffed at how happy the West Berliners were, residing with newly constructed apartments.

Remember the movie Justice at Nuremberg? I think one of the stars was Montgomery Cliff? Want to see it again. I remember being impressed by it.

This Nuremberg was different. Feels wrong somehow to say it was very entertaining but it was.

Yes. Russell Crowe was very good. I’m not sure how I feel about Rami Malik or maybe it was the character he played. It bothered me how close he came to Goring’s wife and daughter. Disturbing.

The movie contained an important message. I will quote from Pogo
We have met the enemy and he is us.

Mine wasn't a movie but a documentary on the 12 tribes cult. I haven't quite finished it but it's been interesting to watch.
I can't place details as it was a few years ago, but a channel on t.v. had a rather long series covering bunches of cults in the U.S., and I think the one you mentioned was one of them.

We watched Rebel in the Rye on Paramount+ over the past two evenings. It was an interesting depiction of the life of J.D. Salinger -- author of The Catcher in the Rye. It wasn't great, but it was watchable.
I read Catcher in the Rye when I was in my 20s and barely remember it. I'm going to read it again. I think it's geared to a younger audience, but I'm going to give it another read anyway.

THE MANDELA EFFECT, Science Fiction, 2019, thriller, no actors known to me, subject: simulated reality, a digital universe. It's an honest-to-God actual theory which was what sort of interested me. It was okay, constant distractions from the plot were tiresome, but it held my attention to the end. Three and a half stars. It's on Prime Video

I started reading this book when I was first hospitalized October 18. I only read it when in hospital. Still not finished. Came to a point that I am not sure if I want to finish it.

Maybe I’ll watch the movie. Maybe I’ll finish the book. I don’t know.

Ennui.
I haven't read the book, but I have seen the film. It was a real roller coaster of emotion to watch, as the late Michael Clark Duncan moved through the scenes to meet his ultimate fate.

An excellent film, filled with excellent performances, and along with the horror, there were humorous moments as well, so a very good way to spend a couple of hours, I found.

Happy-Go-Lucky (2008)

A look at a few chapters in the life of Poppy, a cheery, colorful, North London schoolteacher whose optimism tends to exasperate those around her.

I liked this unusual movie. I watched it years ago.

Stars Sally Hawkins who plays in Maudie (2026) (See jim_slim post above)

Might be easier to watch the film.
