It's a Great Day for the World!

What started out as a positive and hopeful post seems to be turning political. I don't remember a time when that ever went well. There are 2 groups of people that need protected in my most humble opinion, children and the elderly, and of the later group, women particularly. Please act like the gentlemen you are supposed to be. Treat people like you want to be treated. :)
I do try to treat people with the respect they deserve, and I intend to do so here as well. At the same time, I think it’s important that we avoid embracing an overly optimistic, Pollyanna‑style view of what’s happening in the world right now. This conflict is placing enormous strain on many countries that are suddenly forced to operate without essential resources like food, fuel, fertilizer, and more. Reports suggest that India is facing famine, Mozambique has fuel shortages reminiscent of the U.S. in the 1970s, and the civilian situation inside Iran, though less visible, is almost certainly catastrophic. I cannot imagine what life would be like with a world super power bombing our cities and infrastructure 24 hours per day for weeks at a time.
Regarding the stock market, its performance tends to reflect the fortunes of the wealthiest segment of society rather than the middle class. Some analysts have noted that certain investors are profiting significantly from volatility in oil prices. At the same time, corporate profits are rising in part because consumers are paying higher prices across the board, at grocery stores, hardware stores, car dealerships, and in the housing market. As for Iran’s uranium program, it’s worth remembering that global debates about nuclear capability are complicated by the fact that only one nation has ever used a nuclear weapon in war.
I think the disappointment, frustration, and tension surrounding the original post stems largely from its sense of naivete. My response is meant less as criticism and more as a kind of public‑service clarification. I don’t know Lara, and I have no intention of insulting or diminishing her, I only wish to add another point of view that feels necessary to the discussion.

yes, I was born well after the end of WW 2. However, my point is that U.S residents, not counting veterans, have not lived through bombings of civilian infrastructure in this country. I suppose we can surmise the misery seeing video reports on television but I don't think it's totally possible to visualize homes, schools, hospitals, power plants and utility works being destroyed on a daily basis while the leader of the opposing country threatens the obliteration of your entire country. Another poster on this site mentioned (as closely as I can restate it) "We're much better at creating terrorists than we are at eliminating them." How many generations of Iranians do you think will hate Americans for decades into the future as they mourn their dead children and relatives?

You are clearly a good guy, and I appreciate that. I also consider myself a gentleman who has absolute respect for women, but I also believe women who are okay with "Quiet Piggy" need to have respect for themselves before they earn my respect.

One of the worst things about our war with Iran is that they now know that they have great power over the world economy. By shutting down the Strait of Hormuz, they know now that they can cause enormous worldwide economic damage and suffering. Before the war, ships had free passage through the strait. Chances are, when this crisis ends, they'll be in complete control of the strait and charging passage fees of up to $2 million per vessel.

The U.S. has the largest economy in the world and can impose sanctions on nations that we don't like. Iran can now hit back simply by closing the strait. Other nations are going to be less willing to cooperate with sanction impositions if their economies are going to be hurt by doing so. They'd have to be masochists to do so.

Another thing, which may be even worse, is that Iran now knows that they can take our best shot and remain standing, which means we lost that leverage in negotiations. They stood up to the most powerful military in the world and remain basically intact. They may have lost some of the upper echelons of leadership and some military hardware, but the regime itself remains in power.

Many other nations have already been hit in their economies and are not happy with the USA for this situation. The war may end but the costs won't.
As time progresses it's turning out to be less of a great day to more of just another tough day for the world in general.

Like I wrote in Post 34, the Iranians can’t be trusted. They lie and have zero credibility on the world stage. For many years now, other countries have turned their back to the Iranian government and gave them a pass just to keep the Strait open. The day of reckoning is upon them. They are going to have to learn that if they want to be part of this world, they will need to be more forthcoming and trusted, otherwise, they will just keep spinning their wheels.

And what are we doing as a country to reverse this? We executed the man in charge and now his son, who is more extremist than he was, is in charge. Iranian citizens can't even protest now for fear of being killed. I guess I'm confused.

I think I agree. Nothing to celebrate when one’s government behaves like a mob boss. I’m ready for that kind of winning to stop.

I also believe women who are okay with "Quiet Piggy" need to have respect for themselves before they earn my respect.
I posted on day one that "It's a great day for the world"...and it WAS A GREAT DAY when I posted it. Things change. It happens. Grow up Seadoug and Rich. And for the record, I must first value your opinion before I can respect you, Seadoug. Now it's time for the whole world to pray for peace because the Iranians don't understand negotiations and Tuesday could be a bad day.

As of this moment April 19, it stands that on Tuesday the 21st there will be "talks" between Iran and the US". The US today says if Iran doesn't sign the terms presented on Tuesday their entire infrastructure will be taken out...everything! That will be a Bad Day.

All of the World needs to pray. Let go of the gossip, insults, and name calling ("mob boss, Quiet piggy") and do something productive. Pray

That sounds Lovely @spectratg
Our walk was 50 minutes. Our walks are usually 40 minutes to an hour. What type of breed is Maggie? She’s a lucky dog to get 3 long walks in one day.
Well she was supposed to be a golden doodle, but the vet thinks she is 3/4 retriever and 1/4 poodle. Great personality, very gentle (but also very spoiled by her owner). My grandkids have always loved her; the little ones like to lay on her which she is fine with. I got her when she was a puppy (several months after my wife passed) and now is 12 years old; had her to the vet this past week, still in good health. I started giving her glucosamine a few years ago when she had some problems walking but now she is okay. Weighs 98 pounds, largest dog in my retirement community! Yes three walks a day which is good for both of us, although at a very leisurely pace.

We have an 11 year old Schnoodle and she takes glucosamine and green lipped mussel powder from New Zealand . It has greatly helped her poor paw. She can now run again which she does on her own at times. I’ve thought about taking some green lipped mussel powder myself but don’t know enough about it yet. It’s good for dogs but is it good for humans too.? That’s the question I ask myself.

If you're going to 'gossip' that it is a great day for the world because the leader you support has joined Israel to impose war on Iran then it has to be okay for me to 'gossip' that I celebrate not war mongers but rather peace makers. Praying is something some of us do and others don't but there is no 'should' about it.

MarkD, I don't consider my news update from the TV, nor your opinion about peace and prayer to be gossip.
" talk or rumor, typically about other people's personal matters"

It’s a great day if you don’t let it get you down.
I think that I have finally got to where I realize that it doesn’t matter what I know or don’t know about anything because it doesn’t change anything.
I can go days or even weeks without knowing how any war or conflict is going.
I have always cared about pain and suffering anywhere, especially the kind that wars cause but I think caring only causes me pain.
So I deserve a chance this late in life to accept that what will be will be and to just grow older until the end in peace.
