Buying off the internet. Hmmm, what else is changing?

Years ago, when I heard people ACTUALLY bought goods off the internet; I thought, "who in the hell would be that dumb". Well, I am. I even bought furniture. I bought stuff from Penny's, Sear's, etc., on line. Except for glasses (which you now can buy on line) I haven't been to a mall in years. It's amazing how you don't notice things changing, kind of makes you wonder what else is changing.

BTW I noticed that I'm a "Senior Member" of this forum. Thanks a lot. Even in this group, I'm a Senior!!!!

Buying online- I bought a TV console/cabinets, drawer and shelves from Amazon. I really love it but it should have been sold as a "kit" because every part of it had to be put together (built). It took my son hours, as the reviews had warned so we weren't surprised.

I've bought some of almost everything I would buy in a store online, except for shoes and major appliances, at one time or other. Only had to return one item because I didn't really need it after all. I'm careful though, with clothes, I've only bought those few items I knew would fit.

It's true, aside from some books from Amazon, I never thought I'd be doing the kind of online shopping I do now- back when it all started.

In 2001 I bought a 2001 Toyota Camry XLE on the Internet while living in New Zealand and when I got back to the U.S. I picked the car up at a Toyota Dealership in Roseville, California.

I used to think the same thing, but now so many stores are closing and the ones still there only have certain items in stock, other things have to be ordered online. The good thing is sometimes you can get free to store delivery and pick it up in person, return it the same way if it's damaged and sometimes you only get the sale price if you buy it online.

Buying goods online is handy, but dating still sounds weird to me.

Same here.

Except for thrift stores, I prefer to shop online. Books: Just about anything you would want. I like to buy fabric online. I hate going to the fabric store with their "what are you making" questions. Maybe some people like the conversation but I don't. Also JoAnne's is so cheap with their cuts they don't give you an extra 1/8 inch. When I buy online (usually from Etsy) they always give you an extra inch or two. Yes I have measured. Now I'm just wondering when I'll have time to sew.

Right now I'm looking at another laundry rack I want to order.

Kitties, I got this one from Amazon last year and it's great, holds a bit more than a large load of laundry and so easy to fold up and store sideways behind the far side (or under) the bed.

But wow! The price jumped from about $46.00 to $65.00!! Luckily, I got mine free for applying for and being approved for a credit card. Actually, Amazon GAVE me $70.00 for doing so. Maybe that would be an option for you. It's a nice rack that saves me $$ instead of running the dryer.

I get my prescriptions online with no problems.

I have been wondering about paying bills, online banking and investing, I'm still reluctant to put that much information out there.

I was cleaning out some old paperwork recently, and came across the receipt for one of my first online purchases. A set of Goodyear tires in 1994 from tirerack.

I'm with you, Kitties. Other than thrift shops, grocery stores, and gas fill ups, I seldom shop in brick and mortar stores anymore. I ordered a Roku stick on Saturday, promised delivery was Tues, yet I already received it today (Monday). Gotta love 'em.

I pay my bills online by going to the safe websites of the creditor, i.e., I go to the utility company's website, etc. to pay the bill. I've never had a problem with online bill paying. The creditor (like say your mastercard company) already has all your information anyway.

Doing it this way saves me a huge amount of time, hassle and postage, and I don't have to deal with all that paper. I can't imagine going back to doing it the old fashioned way.

I guess my biggest concern is my liability if my information is hacked or stolen from one of these "safe websites" and used to run up debt under my name. I'm too old to start over if some guy halfway round the world cleans me out.

About the internet store cards. You get $50 off, if you switch to their credit card. But you should really check out those cards well. Most of the older account cards have good protections for you. For an older card, if it is stolen, AND you call them, from that point on, all the charges the crooks make, is paid for by the credit card company. With newer cards, even if you call, you are responsible for all the charges on your card. Crooks put $20,000 on your card, guess who has to come up with $20,000.
Yes, it's a pain in ass to read through that stuff, just as much as having to pay for what a crook stole.

Yes those folding laundry lines are great. They hold a lot and fold away. I have two small ones and I'm looking for one a bit bigger. I even tent sheets over them.

Fuzzy, all my newer cards have that same protection as they used to have.

I truly hate buying clothes over the internet. Seems like I'm always disappointed when I get them and I also hate to return things by mail and wait even longer again. But buying a tshirt is usually safe. So I recently ordered a tshirt in my size. When I got it, sure enough, it was so small. No way! So I contacted them through their site and no words 4 days later. Finally I found a phone number, which is normally hidden where you won't find it on the site. I called. An actual human being answered, wow! I was assured, after giving the person my measurements, that they would send me a tshirt that fits me, satisfaction is apparently guaranteed. But still, I'd rather shop for clothes and shoes in stores where I can actually see everything and can try items on. Less stress that way.

My daughter buys shoes online. The first time was trial and error and not successful, but since then, she learned how that company sizes and she's had great experiences. She really likes their shoes specifically.

Banks are pretty secure. I use Wells Fargo bill pay, which is like writing checks. I also set up alerts for my credit card, anytime it is used. My phone gets an alert as soon as they swipe the card, most of the time.
