Dollar stores - What do you buy?

Sometimes I like to go to the dollar store and browse. Yesterday I went to Family Dollar.

Work gloves - I got 2 pairs for $2. These are for chores such as moving the trash dumpster or recycling bin, some gardening, some cleaning. They last a long time.

Vaseline - Got a large jar name brand Vaseline for $1.

Shampoo & conditioner - $1.50 each

Small throw rugs - $5 each

Dish drying towels, pot holders

Batteries - either name brand or generic - much cheaper than other stores

Window cleaner - like Windex, but generic

Detergent - usually a good buy, but I didn't need it. They have name brand and also some cheapies

Forgot to look for marked down Christmas decorations. (Probably sold out anyway)

Spices I seldom use - I write the month and year on them with a marker and toss them after a year.
Markers
small plates
small & medium food containers
some cleaning supplies
candles
odds and ends I can't think of

I buy a lot of shampoo and body wash. We have Dollar Tree here. I like buying some of the snacks, like crackers and stuff. Make good add ons for work lunches. I have also bought those light weight winter gloves there. The kind that look tiny. I always keep a pair in my car to use when pumping gas. If they get smelly I wash them, or eventually throw them out and buy a few more pair.

I buy other odds and ends that I come across.

I stopped shopping at Family Dollar when they began offering discounts that could only be accessed by a modern cell phone with a touch screen.

I really miss an old five and dime type store called D&K, it was a dowdy little no frills store that had great buys on all sorts of commonly used household items.

At the Dollar Tree I buy greeting cards, aspirin, wrapping paper, bows, cookies and a few other food items that seem to appear as a special buy and then disappear forever. I really don't buy much because I've been disappointed with the price vs the quality of many items. If I watch the specials and the coupons I can usually do better in a regular store. It doesn't keep from looking though, I hit the Dollar Tree about once a month.

We have Family Dollar, Dollar General, and I think a few Dollar Trees. A friend has 99 cent store where she lives, and loves it.

I usually go the dollar store to buy cleaning and kitchen supplies. Sometimes I'll buy some pet treats & craft supplies. I'm not a bigger shopper there.

I like to stock up on greeting cards at the Dollar Store. I don't go very often but it is convenient to run in to pick up odds and ends instead of driving all the way to Walmart or wherever.

very odd things..like paper plates, or cleaning stuff like a dustpan and brush..or microfibre dusters.., sometimes sun tan lotion, or stationery

I tend not to buy cleaning stuff like dish soap or bleach etc or toothpaste from the Pound shop..( or the 99p) shop, because generally they are cheaper in the supermarket , however I'll buy a 3 pack of Wisdom Toothbrushes for £1 ...in the pound shop...

I do get irritated now tho'..since the POUND shop is now selling a large amount of their stock at £2...not noticeable unless you look closely at the price label on the shelf. I imagine a lot of people have gone to the cash till with items they thought were a pound to find their bill is double what they expected..thinking everything in the shop was a pound!!

I buy greeting cards at Dollar Tree for $1. They have nice ones that rival the $4.95 cards at Walmart. My husband buys $1 reading glasses. I bought a 2018 wall calendar, gift bags and pens. I enjoy just walking around looking at everything. Sometimes I find stuff I didn't even know I needed. :D

I do that when I'm in Ikea...lol

I usually buy things like christmas gift bags, Suave hair conditioner/shampoo, odd utensils, and bought some cheap plastic plates there for camping but won't do that again....too soft, weird material.

We buy all our greeting cards at Dollar General...50 cents/$1...as opposed to the $4 most stores charge. Things like Kleenex and paper towels, etc., are always cheaper at DG.

There's a Dollar Tree pretty close to the house and I'll run over there if I need something quick like a can of spray paint or some cheap cat food to use as bait for the live trap......that's about it.

I buy, paper goods, gift wrap, some snacks. They also have great pickles of all things. Nice greeting cards also but they have had the same ones for years so I have to remember which ones I already used for what person.

Every time I go into a Dollar Tree, I come out $35 poorer. That seems to be the magic number for me.

The 2 for a $1 gift cards, gift bags of every size, holiday doo-dads for the little ones, some toiletries and beauty products are great. The $1 cartons of chicken broth are a great buy and I can't tell the difference between them and the ones for $3-4 at the grocery store. Foil baking pans are much cheaper and I'll buy a few plastic serving bowls, serving trays and serving utensils for when I take stuff to a pot luck, so I don't have to worry about getting my stuff back.

Christmas wrapping paper. It's cheap quality but the kids don't care when they're attacking the packages like rabid wolverines. Bows and ribbon are a lot cheaper than Walmart.

There's a cleaner they sell called Totally Awesome that's great! It'll take the grime off anything.

Small buckets, plastic baskets, socks, craft supplies, snacks, you name it.

I love Dollar Tree.

Some spices, kitchen "stuff" and reading glasses. Clothes pins.

I don't trust their "fresh" edibles (fruits and veggies) Never know where they came from

Chernobyl

and, yes, I've bought about two dozen reading glasses

and threw them throughout the cabin and workshop

Love our Dollar Tree. Buy detergent which is great for me as I don't get my clothes real grimy so the cheap stuff works. The dishwasher stuff works as good as Cascade and last me forever as I wash my few dishes as I go and don't use the DW much. Sunbeam batteries are good. Gift bags, office supplies, frozen fruit, light bulbs, stocking stuffers, and bread are most of the things I buy. Also buy bleach for white clothes there. Things are higher a other dollar stores so I stick to Dollar Tree.

Mostly batteries, pens, dry eraser markers, and gift bags. We would also go there to buy all our Halloween stage decorations when our band played a Halloween party.

Pinterest has some good lists on what to buy and not to buy at the dollar store. Pregnancy tests fall under yes! I get reading glasses and place them all over the house.

I buy envelopes/cards/lined writing tablets/pens/cleaning products for kitchen/bathroom/yearly wall calenders/pocket version/cookies.
I prefer Dollar Tree over Family Dollar. Sue

Love Dollar Tree where everything is truly $1 or 2 for $1. They have upped their game over the years to include products made in America, as well as name brand and better quality products. Great buys for us have been greeting cards, reading glasses, trouser and knee high socks, super glue gel, cleaning products, shower curtain liners, hair accessories, some food items, aluminum foil, parchment paper, plastic sandwich bags (fold and zip tops) and waste basket bags. The gift bags and party supplies are nice as well. I got some pretty, rainbow colored mugs from there just 2 nights ago. Probably would have paid substantially more if I had gotten mugs from Bed, Bath & Beyond.
