RadishRose, so many of the old tree farms suffer from diseased trees because of "eastern filbert blight" so the farmers have to start over. The filbert business seems to be strong though, I notice fields of baby trees growing.
 

Hi from New Jersey. My daughter and family lived in North Bend for awhile. Her hubby was a doctor in the coast guard. We visited twice and I absolutely loved it there. We did a lot of hiking and I went clamming. I had never done that before. They got a bit bored after awhile. Not much to do and had to travel to go to any major stores. I could have spent the rest of my life there. He was transferred to Virginia and I'm so happy they are only about 5 hours away but I do miss Oregon.
 

I live in central Oklahoma just south of Oklahoma City. The closest attraction is probably Turner Falls.

Haystack Rock was a great favorite, too. Loved Astoria. Loved Portland. Pendleton had an interesting underground tour.

jujube, Silver Falls is a beautiful state park to spend the day. I think it's a 5 mile hike around the park with several water falls to take pictures of. The Oregon Gardens are also a favorite...

Ruth n Jersey, another favorite road trip is Central Oregon, much drier that the west side. This picture is Smith Rock, a favorite place for hikers and rock climbers.

twinkles, seems I'm learning quite a bit today looking up states... never been to Georgia although I have heard of Atlanta, gambling right? Lots of old history as Georgia is one of the 13 original colonies. Besides peaches looks like Georgia is known for Vidalia onions which are supposed to be the sweetest in the world... I was born in Walla Walla, WA so those sweet onion farmers would probably disagree with that statement (smile).

Pappy, thanks for responding... beach life... don't we love being around water? I have never seen a sunrise on the east coast... we have sunsets on our beaches. The glory in it probably is the same but it must feel different in some way?

I live in Houston, the Clear Lake area. Closest beach is Galveston but its dirty looking and we do not go. My brother lives in Miami and when I visit we go to the beaches with that lovely white sand. He takes us to the out of the way beaches that are not crowded so we have it to ourselves! I live close to the Johnson Space Center and Ellington Field so we have a lot of visitors here.
 
I live in the city of Preston, about just over one hour ride on the bus is the world famous Blackpool tower.

Ellejay, I went to college in Spokane so I am familiar with your area... Lake Coeur d/Alene is a beautiful place. My husband (now deceased) and I rode his harley from Portland to Spokane, then over into Idaho and down to Boise then home again... it was great to see all the different climates.

terry123, you must hear a lot of air traffic/jets overhead? I have heard a few time on this thread how dirty the gulf waters are... it's too bad.
