What’s one thing that helped you enjoy long road trips after 60?

Pursuit of a hobby is always a great diversion from the road. Viewing plants, animals, landscapes, and I suppose cityscapes, museums, historical locations can all be a focus, along w hiking, fishing, or many other activities can serve as motivation, seasonal timing, and route selection.

Fishing; lake, ocean, river or stream?

You're welcome, and to any others that have kids or grandkids, or yourselves that might need a few baits to ignite or re-ignite an interest in fishing I'd be more than happy to send some your way at no expense to you.

Caught between my aging parents and my teens – anyone else in this “sandwich”?

Beware: Your kids are learning how to take care of their aging parents as you go through this. I would definitely favor taking care of your parents; your kids will learn how to cope by finding their own rides or other workarounds.

Fishing; lake, ocean, river or stream?

Panama making bait first thing in the morning. We kept those baits alive until we needed them. My wife is hooked up on a marlin. Once the offshore bite petered out we went inshore to fish. My cry to the Spanish speaking Captain and mate, "a la casa de Senior Gallo!." (to the house of...

What’s one thing that helped you enjoy long road trips after 60?

The biggest thing for us is not traveling btwn mid-June and October 1st avoiding the heat and masses of people. Fortunately or unfortunately for us we live where people travel to in the summer so our home is a summer refuge from all that.

I wear the down long underwear for motorcycle riding and still hunting big game at extremely low temps, 0°F and below, but I could never wear them alpine skiing as I would be drenched in sweat in about 3 turns. I can understand why they would be great for some, but I'm a much bigger, wider...

Fishing; lake, ocean, river or stream?

I started fishing at age 7, first trip was for Boston mackerel out of Pt Pleasant NJ, I caught nine and had some of the meanest bird's nests one could imagine. From there I went on to fly fish for trout, and then began bass fishing. I caught my first 5lb largemouth in SC in 1982. I fished in...

Simplifying holidays when parents can’t handle big gatherings anymore

Welcome. Yes me and my wife took over all the holiday meals at a certain point. First I made food and served it at my father's house and then we made everyone come to our home, since we had a young child at the time. My advice is you and your siblings, if any, take all that over and make...

Glad you feel that way, but the available research says otherwise.

With the rising cost of tuition, is a 4 yr degree still worth the cost?

If I was interested in learning a trade I'd head right to the job site and get a job as a helper w a skilled tradesman. Save the tuition, earn a salary, and prove yourself as a worthy employee 2 years before those in trade school have ever turned a wrench for pay. For some attending an Ivy...

    Don’t you hate road rage!

Yes if one's wife continually "yells" about the quality of his/her driving perhaps he/she might take that to heart and decide not to drive any more. Usually rage happens because someone interprets "bad driving" as an intentional act to irritate or disrupt others ride, simple mistakes appear to...
