What was your first full time job? What year was it and how much did it pay?

Wow, you were wealthy. My first job, in the 50's, was typing - for 25cents an hour.

This will be my last move…..where will your last move take you.

I wish you well. Yesterday, we put a deposit on an Ind. Living apartment, will be quite a change. We'll be moving at the same time.

New member wanting to say hello!

Pleased to meet you, Lula! Guess I'm the one in my 80's who is too housebound. Say hello to your Mum from us across the world in Western USA. Never been to Manchester; am sure we missed out. Welcome to the Forum.

Daughter Thinks I’d Like Senior Home Living

This is very timely. We've just been looking at Independent Living homes. Here in AZ, they were $3000 - $4000+ for nice ones. I do like the idea of people to meet, activities, no maintenance chores. Hope we can move soon.

    Small fiber peripheral neuropathy

I was given Lidocaine patches, for neuropathy in my toes. 5% Lidocaine are by prescription, but 4% are OTC and work pretty well. I'm told there are Qutanza treatments of Lidocaine that work 6 mos, but my ins doesn't cover. Also, am using Walmart's liquid Lidocaine rubbed on toes at bedtime...

As you get older, do you find yourself downsizing, decluttering.

It's not a speedy process. We've donated truckloads. Much left. Family antiques are the hardest to lose. Our children say when we go to Ind. Living, they'll take what they want & the rest will be in an Estate Sale. Then the house goes, too.

What do you think of having a cat or a dog during retirement. Are they a help or a hindrance?

Your daughter is wonderful. We have fostered so many thru the years, & loved it. I cannot imagine life without a dog friend, & we have two cats, too. Must move soon to Ind. Living, & found a place that will take them all. After we're gone, if any remain, our children who are also active in...

    Downsizing...

We must downsize. Too old to keep up our large yard & house fixits. But my husband, too, hates the idea. Hates change, maybe. Is it always the husbands? I'd look forward to Ind. Living with people to interact with, instead of isolation.

    Whats on your bucket list?

That's so funny! True, tho. We have been many places & have a head full of memories. Don't have the mobility to go beyond our town now, probably. We hope you make that 100, Manatee.

Beautiful mid Missouri. Been there many times; my sister lived in Marble Hill & Jackson. Good memories.

    When did you move?

Our children are checking out some, & we hope to do tours of those on their short list. Have 3 pets & a husband having a hard time dealing with this. He loves his tools & bbq eqipment. I am ready to leave the work & cost of our house. Think maybe we waited too long.

    When did you move?

Many places in Az don't have wait lists; some do. We both have mobility issues now that make yard care, etc. impossible, even much shopping. So our children say it's time.

    Pleased to meet you!

I am an Arizona retiree, thinking of moving to Ind. Living. I feel isolated, no longer have outlet for painting, sewing, crafts. Life is just housework. At least I'll have new friends here.
