The Problem of Over-medication and Multiple Co-morbidities

My take is that doctors have no direct interest in enriching PHARMA (big or little), but rather that they're looking for fast and easy answers to get you out of their office more quickly and process more patients every day. Pills are easy to prescribe, far more easy than working with the patient...

The Problem of Over-medication and Multiple Co-morbidities

I hadn't heard about patient advocates and will have to check them out. Thanks for the suggestion.

And how do you know how they interact with each other? With respect to the particular negative QOL issues you want to solve. It's a conundrum.

The Problem of Over-medication and Multiple Co-morbidities

Agreed. I'm constantly scanning my list of meds for things to cut out or cut back on while not throwing out the baby with the bath water. Would appreciate trained medical help in doing so but Medicare reimbursement rates being what they are I can't expect much of such help.

The Problem of Over-medication and Multiple Co-morbidities

Having lived long enough to acquire many different maladies for which there is no cure, and being prescribed many different medications in response thereto, I find it very, very difficult to sort out side-effects and symptoms. I ask myself, is this particularly QOL-negative state a result of a...

On My Way Back; Thanks to All

Cleared for re-starting physical therapy this week, which I love. Thinking about reaching out on FB to try and find some local Good Sams who might consider taking me out to lunch or to the park for an hour or so now and then. Asking for favors is difficult. Maybe it gets easier when you actually...

On My Way Back; Thanks to All

Thanks for the thought. It's bit by bit, which is tough for an essentially impatient person like myself. Having to learn patience and forbearance at 80 is a difficult lesson.

Nursing Home Resident Seeks Other Nursing Home Resident Penpals

Thanks, Veronica. It means a lot to me to have folks like you speak out. The MG forums and Facebook (and Reddit) groups are all good in their way and I participate in them regularly. But it's still hard to find people who want to (and are capable of) verbalizing things that most of us (including...

    Thank you very much indeed.

Nursing Home Resident Seeks Other Nursing Home Resident Penpals

I don't think the homes will respond, and I wonder whether they have bulletin boards, as well as wondering what tiny fraction of residents would pick up on it. My energy and time are severely disease-limited, so I can't waste them on scatter-shots. I'll keep trying with MG-related websites and...

Nursing Home Resident Seeks Other Nursing Home Resident Penpals

Feeling half human again is great, particularly because it helps me understand what I was trying to express when I was in extremis and first posting here. So I'm given the opportunity of correcting myself, as follows: (1) I wasn't really looking for "pen pals." Never had one in my life. To my...

Thanks much for your suggestions. Truly appreciated. Problem is, everything here is set up for people who are to some degree mentally incapacitated. I'm told I'm the only one with a computer, though some have phones for talking with family. I asked, and our patient welfare people don't know of...

On My Way Back; Thanks to All

Still recovering from flu, MG flare. They tell me it will take another month until I'm back where I was in March. But every day is a little better than the day before. Food for gratitude, indeed. Mental & emotional equilibrium re-established. Now THAT feels good! Next, re-embarking on an...

Nursing Home Resident Seeks Other Nursing Home Resident Penpals

I heartily and sincerely apologize to all for arriving on your doorstep and losing my lunch in your lap, metaphorically speaking. I've finally had a half-decent night's sleep, some powerful antibiotics and painkillers, and though still quite ill, have been able to get ahold of myself and return...
