Does Anybody read Old Moore's Almanac

I never heard of it, Mike. Looked it up. It's astonishing that the Irish almanac has been published annually since 1764! I have read Farmer's Almanac many times over the years, which is an American publication. It's been going since 1818. The publications share some similarities, but Old...

What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

Yes, I agree. From my review of the film: "The story is not so much an attempt to expose or even document true legislative Vatican practices, as it is a well crafted behind the scenes thriller. There is a surprise ending that no one could see coming. In my view the twist it contained was not...

    Do you contact your representatives

Yes, I write my state and federal reps/Congressmen several times a year. Occasionally I'll write a snail mail letter if the issue is IMO huge. I don't expect my Emails to be read by the politician, but I do think that the yeas or nays on the issue written about are likely tallied by the...

What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

The Third Man (1949) Producer Alex Korda had sent British novelist Graham Greene to Vienna after WWII to conceive and write a screenplay which would capture the wantonness and treacherous times in the post war-torn city. After much research Green developed a screenplay, The Third Man, the...

Tall sailing ship hits the Brooklyn Bridge in NYC

Without the capacity to steer, the ship was helpless against the strong current. I haven't read how the 2 individuals died in the accident. The passengers could surely have seen the collision coming. I'm sure that will be revealed.

Most inspiring movie you have seen.

First one that comes to mind: La Dolce Vita (1960). I saw it in 1962 when I was 18. It inspired me to be more free wheeling, and to rebel against conformity.

    Classical Music

That's one of my favorite Liszt pieces. The man nailed it! I wonder two things: how he learns pieces, because he's unable to read musice; and also it's amazing how he can cross over his right hand to pick out notes with his left hand a couple of octaves above, which he cannot see. Astounding...

We actually got much worse actual hurricane wind and flood damage here on the western Miss. Gulf Coast. 10-15 miles of coastal communities were obliterated. New Orleans didn't suffer all that much damage from Katrina's winds, but when the levee on the Miss. River broke it completely flooded an...

    The 2001 movie "Domestic Disturbance"

I don't believe I ever saw this picture. Good cast. What did you think of it? Evidently it got pretty well panned.

What Was the Last Movie You Watched?

Yeah, I thought the '74 version was over stylized and a little weak. I did, however, think that R. Redford was well cast as Gatsby.

    More vintage advertising

Wow. 60 bucks was a lot of money in 1949. Some people weren't making that much in a week! These were probably great portable radios though.

Are you streaming ( or binge watching ) any series on Netflix, or any other service? Tell us about it.

To my taste the first 3 seasons, especially the 1st, were the best. The series started downhill with the 4th season, then totally went off the rails in the 5th season. Creator Noah Hawley originally said that season 5 would be the last. But when he finishes work on the Alien TV series...
