Woke up to a cold house

I replaced an igniter before. A got a cheap one on Amazon. It failed after a couple months. I bought a second one at a local appliance part store. I think it was guaranteed for a year. Hasn’t failed in over a year. I think it was 39.95 plus tax. This was a natural gas igniter, not fuel oil.

    Notes from my patio

I have a rough lemon tree in my yard. Great for drinks and lemon meringue pie. But like yours, most of them go to waste. And it was a bumper crop this year.

Tell us of your working life.

34 years as a college professor/school administrator. I would have done it for free if I did not need the money. All the jobs I had before were learning what I DIDN’T want to do longer than I had to.

    This, That, and the Other

And the OLD story continues… Up to over 40 likes, about 10 matches, and I am going to meet two of them, maybe three. Didn’t think I would be this busy. It may all amount to nothing, but it is fun…

Snake out of the grass Saw this little guy on the bike path this morning. Just getting warm in the sun. Yes, it is a poisonous rattlesnake and I am careful.

How Do You Feel About Advanced Directives or Living Wills?

I think everyone should have them. And give copies to the relevant parties. My state has a registry for the directives in case they can’t find someone or there is a dispute. Also, wills/trusts - please do them if you can. I highly recommend it. Peace of mind and no family fights over who gets...

The question that quietly follows us into our senior years.

I keep moving. I have several interests that keep me going and out of the house each day. It could partly be ADHD which I don’t care to medicate. I am happy with it. I have quite a few senior neighbors on this street. Some are very active and others just stay in the house all day staring at...

Scientists say we may have been wrong about the origin of life

This. This is the “secret sauce” that makes life on earth and probably other places possible. Otherwise how could a bunch of rocks and dust floating in a vacuum amount to anything? There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, / Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." — Act 1, Scene 5...

    This, That, and the Other

The best policy I decided to give OLD another try. I tried it before almost eight years ago but it was too soon after the marriage ended. Couldn’t get into it. I set up a brutally honest profile yesterday. Not interested in marriage or cohabitation. Looking for a companion to do activities...

Why people laugh less these days

I try to see the humor in everything. It does make others angry and perplexed at times. But that is their issue. It’s a short life. I try to find the joy in small things and large. I remember Chris Rock the comedian saying that if you are happy, life is short. But if you are miserable, it’s loooong.

    Sharp rise in food allergies

Also, lactose intolerance is not an allergy to dairy. It’s lack of an enzyme that breaks down dairy. It can be inherited/genetic. I have it and so do two of my children.

    Sharp rise in food allergies

When my kids were in preschool, a local breadmaker would stop by and give free samples to the kids at the school gate. One day the director saw him doing it and lost her $&@!. Allergies! Food poisoning! Lawsuits! I suppose I don’t blame her. From then on the bread man had to give the bread to...
