    I opened my door and...

But if she does dusty could then file a restraining order. As for having a 'weapon' both my Dad when we were kids and a Martial Arts Black Belt i knew in VISTA would remind women that we often forget the weapons we have at hand if someone becomes aggressive. Purses and keys for starters...

Interesting "conformity" experiment in an elevator

@hollydolly made the crucial point: If i knew the exit was going to be in front of me wouldn't conform. But knowing me i'd speak up ask about it. I have been in elevators where it opened on more than one side. Usually these were in large buildings in big cities, but when we lived in Laramie...

Public transportation. Why should it be free? Why should it not be free?

Couple of stray thoughts prompted by this. Winter of 1966 i was living on Lower East Side of Manhattan. Working x Midtown on East side. i walked 40 blocks to and from for the duration. Strike was 12 days starting on New Year's Day, so depending on what day of week that had been i HAD to walk...

Public transportation. Why should it be free? Why should it not be free?

Thank you, pretty much my feelings. You saved me some time!;) In Rural NM there are some 'Free' to the rider services: Most Senior Centers (like many around the country) have their own bus. While most clients pay a small fee for meals at the centers they don't pay for bus to/from it. Also there...

Former Ballerina With Alzheimer's Performs 'Swan Lake' Dance

Music stimulates the brain. When i drove Bus for senior center, one client was a pianist. Every day after she ate lunch she'd go to the piano to play. When playing you could see her coming into self awareness again. And the other clients seemed to love it too.

How old is your oldest living sibling....

Sounds like my now deceased eldest sister, 10 yrs o!der. I could count with fingers left over on my hands the number of times we talked on the phone (mostly when my family and i were caring for our terminally ill DAD. She didn't write letters or send cards. But for as long as she was alive i...

    A Place For Random Memories

I was born in '46. By the time i was 3 i was hiding injuries from Mama unless impossible to do so. Why? Because she'd cry an moan so much i'd have to look at it to confirm i was actually the one injured. Usually i'd wash any break in the skin. If Dad or my eldest sister was home and i needed...

Woman killed over not saying 'thank you'

I'm a door holder too. It bothered me more when my then (decades ago in city settings) prepubescent children didn't get thanked than if i didn't. Especially when several people would go thru and not so much as smile or nod from any of them. As many of you know, i now live In a small town at...

    What's Your Favorite Movie

There'd have be some major incentive to name just one. That's like picking any favorite pleasure-- movie, TV show, Book, food, activity. Different types of each thing fills different needs. And my mood definitely makes difference-- what do i need/want from whatever at a given moment in time...

    Guilt

Welcome. Condolences. Agree with most of the advice above. Moving on is often a matter of taking one step at time. (Facing and accepting feelings but eventually putting less emphasis on the negative ones and living your best life with what you have. Explore SF has something for everyone i...
