When did you notice you're old?

When I realized I HAD to have seat warmers on long trips in the car, even in 90 degree temps to prevent me from being stiff when I arrived at my destination.

Location of the TV in the bedroom

#5 for me. I don't even have a clock in the bedroom. Nothing worse than an insomniac staring at a digital clock face counting how many more hours before you have to get up. Heaven forbid I have something else to stare at in the room.

Is being on a fixed income during these economic times causing you to "hunker down"?

I won't be retired until the end of this year but have been living leanly for a while and tracking expenses. One area that I had a lot of leaky spending habits on was Amazon. It was just far too easy to order any little thing I thought I needed. I cancelled my Prime membership in March and...

Do you wear hearing aids? I could use your recommendation.

I'm not quite ready for hearing aids yet, but like everything else that I know will eventually appear in my life I like to research in advance. At this point I'm kind of leaning towards the Bose Lexie B2. Has anyone here had any experience with OTC hearing aids and did they work for you?

Do you follow an animal or a plant based diet?

I'm a plant based eater. I was never a huge fan of meat anyway so it wasn't really an issue to drop it. I try to avoid all processed foods and use olive oil minimally. I don't identify as vegan because I do take fish oil capsules everyday. I have managed to give up sweets and don't miss them at...

    What would you do?

Would it be possible to sell your home when you retire, take the proceeds and move to a lower cost area and also take your son along with you? Just an idea, I'm not sure what his living arrangement is now or if that same arrangement could be set up elsewhere.

    Credit Cards/Debit cards. Cash. Checks...

I carry a credit card and pay for about all of my purchases with it. I immediately deduct that amount from my checking account and add it to a ledger, then pay it off monthly. I leave the debit card at home. It's way more of a hassle to get your money back from fraudulent use of a debit card...

    Canceled My Netflix Subscription Temporarily

I have Netflix, Hulu, Peacock and Prime. I cancelled my HBO add on after season 1 of House of Dragons finished. When the second season comes back and is completed I'll pick HBO back up to watch it and The Last of Us then drop it again until the next season. Currently on Netflix I'm watching...

Are you on time for things?

I read an article years ago that people fall into 3 time management types. The chronically early, the chronically right on time, and the chronically late. If they end up somewhere outside of their time comfort zone it can give them some feelings of discomfort. For myself I'm a chronically early...

How do you answer the question "what do you do all day"?

I'm not retired yet but if asked that question I would imagine, as others have said. it would depend on the person asking and the intent. If it's someone just genuinely curious I'd give them a brief synopsis of how I spend my time. However, if it's someone being condescending I would be more...

Compound drugs falling under part b?

I believe the rules are that if you choose an Advantage plan when you start receiving Medicare you have a certain amount of time that you can choose to switch back to original Medicare with guaranteed issue rights. I believe it's 6 months to a year, somewhere in that time frame. After that...

Living well means planning well for retirement

Not any planning in my 20's but by my 30's I had a stable job and it was tight being a single mom with 2 children. I did have a defined benefit pension plan and knew my social security estimates and realized between the two I'd be ok. So planning done, I thought. In my mid 40's they took the...

    Hello to All

I lived in Butzbach(may be spelling that wrong, it's been a long time). Close to a town called Giessen, and very reasonable drive times to Wiesbaden, Frankfurt and Mainz.

    Hello to All

I'm in the US. Lived here all my life with the exception of 6 years that I spent in Germany. It was an absolutely lovely place.

    Hello to All

I started lurking here yesterday after a google search led me here. Stayed up until 2 AM reading various posts and got back on today to read some more. I'm happy to have found a place where seniors can discuss the various aspects of aging and retirement and it seems to be a place where posters...
