Life In A Senior Affordable High-Rise

That reminds me of something that happened at the Independent Living place where my dad & stepmom lived for a while. When they moved in, the rule was that you had to be ambulatory without using a wheelchair; using a walker (rollator, zimmer frame, etc.) was okay. Then the corporation that...

What would be *your* quote of the day?

The only reward you'll probably ever get for doing the right thing is in your own mind. But you should do it anyway. Because I said so, that's why.

What would be *your* quote of the day?

"Beware of nostalgia. Most of the time, it's a great big liar."

    Just keep your panties zipped

    I agree; very frustrating.

    Just keep your panties zipped

That's not just the case in Texas. I think that's been going on for as long as people have existed, that those in power want us "little people" to follow the rules but don't feel like they should have to.

Salary Needed To Live Comfortably in Major U.S. Cities

My paternal grandmother was like that. There was to be no laughing or even smiling while in church, even if the pastor said something amusing, because salvation of your immortal soul was serious business, this life was only a tightrope walk over the flames of Hell.

A sharp decline in Americans who are both married and homeowners by age 30 (1960-2025)

One of my nieces-in-law put herself through college and got a bachelor's degree and now has a good job but was just barely able to afford a small, old, needing a lot of work, 2 bedroom, 1 bath house. Another niece-in-law wasn't able to attend college, manages 3 restaurants and can only afford to...

A sharp decline in Americans who are both married and homeowners by age 30 (1960-2025)

Not any of the ones I know; they hopelessly daydream about being able to afford a 2-bedroom apartment rather than the 1-bedroom they're crammed into now.

Never So Alone As I Am, Now!

Please don't beat yourself up about becoming isolated. It's awful to feel so isolated, believe me I know because I am too, but I hope you don't blame yourself too much. They say loneliness has gotten so bad amongst the population that they're calling it an epidemic. I hope you come here to vent...

Stressed about health issues, sad about the past

I can't find your post about feeling so alone and it sounded like you were blaming yourself for that but you shouldn't. I'm not saying you've never made mistakes--we all have--but loneliness is a problem a lot of people are having to deal with, more than at any other time in history. (Maybe...

    Wandering Shadows & Other Tails

Mine wouldn't be. The only family I have nearby are a nephew and niece-in-law and they are wonderful people but my NIL is not a pet person; she's a baby & toddler person (which is fortunate for her kids and grandkids since she's such a great mom and grandmom).
