With a refrigerator, do you prefer a bottom freezer, top freezer, or side by side?

I'm pretty much stuck with a bottom freezer. Our house came with a huge built-in refrigerator and I recently had to replace it. Only a couple of models fit the space and they both come with a bottom freezer. However, the freezer has an extra drawer in it and holds loads of food.

Are you pleased with your current weight?

I guess I'm happy. My ideal weight at 5'8" was 165 lbs. when I was working. I work out more now, including the treadmill, but I'm now up to 175. Most of it seems to be in my midsection. I know my metabolism is slowing down and is now burning fewer calories because when I used to work out I...

    The Documentary, My Mom Jayne

What was especially interesting is that she had a very aggressive PR agent, who is interviewed at 100 y/o, who made sure she was always in the spotlight. Unfortunately it may have been for the wrong reasons.

    New York City Subways Flooding

Our temps in Dallas have been below normal so far this summer due to the rain we've been experiencing. Nothing like the floods in other areas but June and July are usually dry months for us. One lesson I've learned over the past few weeks is that I will never live near a river. I hope the...

    The Documentary, My Mom Jayne

I know there is a separate thread on what people are watching on streaming services, but I felt this needed one of its own. We just watched the documentary My Mom Jayne, produced by her daughter Mariska Hargitay. Hargitay struggles, at 60, to find out more about her mother (since she was only...

Are Left-Handed People Quicker Thinkers Than Right-Handers?

I can totally relate to smearing my writing. I'm left-handed and the teacher always insisted we turn our paper toward the right, which means I now overcompensate and have the "left-handed hook". It's actually somewhat painful to write these days and I smear everthing. With other things, I am...

    Stores, some of my favorite

We still have a pub table and a couple of mirrors purchased from Bombay Company. They offered good quality and style without sky-high prices. Thanks for reminding me!

    Stores, some of my favorite

They closed their retail stores. Hubby was manager at a few Pier 1 stores. They had a great CEO that used to visit the stores and listen to the employees, then he retired and they brought in an "ivory tower" guy who was out of touch. They do have an online presence, but a big part of Pier...

    Stores, some of my favorite

Most have already been mentioned their favorite stores so I will just share the memory of my parents taking me to the toy department at Sears when I was a kid. They had everything, from Hot Wheels to American Building Bricks to Crayons in 96 colors. I still remember it like it was yesterday...

This Heat and Your Air Conditioning

Two central A/C units... one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Upstairs is set at 78, and since heat rises to the top it is always going. Downstairs set at 77 and is rarely on until late in the day. Ceiling fans everywhere, always on. I'm a wimp when it comes to heat. We reach the 100s...

55 Communities - Pros and Cons

My mother was a widow, living in a 4-bedroom house in South Florida back in 2006. We moved to a house in Dallas and hand-picked a villa for her in a 55+ community. It was pre-construction so we picked the location and finish-out. She loved living there. She didn't drive but she made close...
