Sandwich shop in California closes after social media mocks high prices

My view is that people choose fast food because they want the drive-through. Most greasy spoon type places require people to get out of their cars and go inside.

Sandwich shop in California closes after social media mocks high prices

When I fly back to Orange County, CA, to visit my youngest daughter and family, I’m shocked by the prices regular, everyday-type restaurants are charging for normal, everyday-type food. I’m spoiled living here in Kansas, I suppose, and am glad to be. I don’t eat out often so it’s not a big deal...

Is cash on the way out?

I refuse to purchase anything online, but like you, I only use my debit card at the bank’s atm. The only time I use the credit card is my piddly amount of groceries, the gas station, dentist…that’s about it.

Is cash on the way out?

We have to be diligent, but the more we hold to the old ways, the more chance we have of taking it back. I’ve been reading about groups of young people who’ve gone to using typewriters for their school work because they want to prove it’s their work and not AI. And, they’re buying record albums...

Is cash on the way out?

Exactly, and it irks me to no end and try my best to stay out of their grasp… but it’s becoming harder, isn’t it.

Is cash on the way out?

Here in south/central Kansas, I write checks for any service work done on my house, and I use cash most coffee shops and restaurants. I use my credit card to pay for most other things but then pay off the balance and never have interest charged. I try to frequent the independent shops and...

Variety is the spice of life and good for the brain…

Please write what all you did today! I remember hearing on the radio some years back that a person should drive a different route to work once in a while, as often as possible, to challenge your brain. Well, for me, there was really only one feasible route unless I wanted to take 2 hours to...

    Applying white shoe polish

Thanks for the tip about where to find the liquid polish. A while back I searched high and low and finally found black paste at a shoe repair shop in Wichita. Pricey!

Can you relate to any of these?

None of those. In fact, I’ve not heard of them (grew up in Los Angeles area in 1950s).

    No way! Amish speak German?

I’d understood the Mennonites originated in far eastern Germany, pre WWII borders. I’m not sure about the Amish. Here in central Kansas, there is a very large Amish and Mennonite population. Restaurants are serving dishes they’re calling German that I’d never heard of (verinika) or had a...

Cell phones being used in vehicles while driving. Pros. Cons.

In California, where I lived until about 4 years ago, there were steep penalties for holding a phone while driving. Here in Kansas, it seems there aren’t any such laws. I see people all the time holding or looking at their phones… makes me very nervous indeed.

Cell phones being used in vehicles while driving. Pros. Cons.

I use mine for the same… but my phone gps won’t talk to me anymore. I don’t know why, I must have made it mad somewhere along the line. Very disappointing as I had a wonderful male Australian voice chosen.

    Bread machine for single person?

Not boring at all!! I don’t have enough hours for all the things I am always doing…. So much beauty to explore! And quiet? That’s ok with me! I lived the noisy, crowded Southern California life for most of my 72 years… I stored up enough noise for a lifetime!

    Bread machine for single person?

I love it here in Kansas!! Wide open spaces, no crowds, no traffic!
