Adult Coloring Books And Coloring Apps

I love my coloring books and will start again after the holidays during the long winter months. My daughter recently gave me this cup that came with 3 inserts to color. I'm sure I could even make more inserts from the pages of the coloring books I have. The bottom of the cup comes off so the paper can slide in.View attachment 41231

How interesting Ruth. I've never seen cup insert coloring. Nicely done! I'll have to ask the ladies in my coloring group if they have. It certainly is a good winter past time. I've been away from my coloring (in books) for almost a year and finally finished a picture last week. In the meantime, I've done a couple of pictures using the Colorme app. I hope you post your work when you're done. :D

I bought a couple for myself ! I think I was better at coloring when I was a kid .....

I had a note on my windshield that I was improperly parked .

I put one back that I had a hard time staying between the lines in school.

I got the urge to paint and painted the bathroom a nice light green color even though I am just a tenant.

It's a nice change from Landlord Grey.

I have been getting an advertisement for an adult coloring app called “Pigment” on my facebook page, and it looked interesting, so I checked it out.
They have a lot of different pictures of all sort of things that a person can color, and they offer either a free app or a premium one. Either way, you get the first week of premium free, and then can decide from there if you want to keep the free app or use the premium one that has all of the amazing brushes, color palettes, and about a zillion pictures to choose from.

Pigment has a lot of tutorial videos on Youtube, so I started watching some of those, to get an idea of how the app worked, and today I started my free week of the premium app.
I found a grey scale picture that I liked, and I like that better than the line drawings with all of the little bitty pieces to color; so I spent part of the afternoon learning how to use the app.

It is actually somewhere between painting and coloring, because of all the different brushes and applications you can use, like water color, oil painting, chalks, and more.
Here is my first painting from today, and I am happy how it turned out for a first time. I can go back and work on it more until I decide it looks how I want it to look.

I was holding my ipad to color the picture, and it got heavy in my hands; so I need to find a better way to do this than holding the ipad. I am going to try my lap desk next and see how that works.

It’s beautiful happy flower lady. The water looks lovely. The trees look a bit like weeping willows. Is this art work done on your iPad?
Thanks for showing us. I know the projects I want to start. You’ve inspired me.

This is from an app called Pigment. It is a coloring app, with all kinds of pictures to choose from. The one I chose was called a “grey scale picture”, which means it looked like a pencil drawing of the landscape.

Then, you choose from the different tools, brushes and special effects and paint the picture the way you want it to look. If you look on youtube, there are lots of tutorial videos showing some of the things you can do with the pigment app. After looking at it, and trying my very first picture, I think that I am really going to enjoy this.
One of the things you can do is take one of your own pictures, turn it into either a line drawing or a grey scale picture, upload it to the app, and then paint your picture.

Once I become proficient at this, I want to try coloring some of my old family photos and see if it will work for that.

That is beautiful!

So, today I tried coloring an old black/white photo. First i sharpened it and lightened it up so that it was easier to see what was what and where lines started and ended.
The photo was of my MIL and FIL back in the 1940’s when they were younger, in a yard with trees and such in the background. The first thing I did was just color everything to get an idea of how it would look in color, and then it looked like exactly what it is, an old photograph that has been tinted with color.

However, the problem is all of the darker shadows still on their faces, especially my FIL. Even when I color it, it is not like I actually painted out the grey shadows, I just change their shade somewhat.
I was thinking that maybe if I turned the picture into sepia instead, then the brown would color over better, but when I tried a sepia toned one, then the Pigment app still turns it into greyscale.

The picture i posted yesterday was a greyscale drawing, but once I finished it, it looked more like a painting than a colored picture; so I just have to try more things and find out how to do what I want, I guess.

My husband with Parkinson's does coloring. His tremors are non-existent when he is coloring.
That's so interesting. I on the other hand, who don't have Parkinson's, but do have a very slight tremor in my right hand, don't colour because I don't find it relaxing at all having to concentrate so hard to overcome the slight shake. Human brains eh! They're a puzzle 😉

Very nice HFL !

I am still enjoying the Pigment coloring app. I think that I am going to stop my subscription and see if they offer me a cheaper one. Sometimes, you can get the subscription for less if you keep it a couple of months and then cancel, and they want to entice you back.

Very mystical HFL. I like your tactic. I've found that it works with streaming services too. Paramount+ gave me two free months when I tried to cancel.

They didn’t offer me anything cheaper, and I missed having all of the extra special effects, and all of the different art styles that come with premium; so I went ahead and got a year’s subscription, which makes it about $5 a month instead of the $10 that you pay by the month.
Now, I am thinking about getting a middle sized ipad for coloring with.
I have been using my large 12.9” iPad Pro, and it is just a little large and heavy for me to sit and hold while I color, and I do better if I can hold the iPad than trying to do it laying on the desk.
Some of the older iPads are not too expensive on eBay or Amazon, and I do not need a lot of GB just for a device to use mainly for painting.
