@hollydolly Wow! What a great day you had. I love the idea of high tea on that train. Very, very cool. I'd say your DD is definitely a keeper! Four cakes? Did you say four cakes?😋😋😋😋

I had such a weird experience today. My pill holder (the type with 7 sections, one for each day of the week) needed to be refilled and so I opened all the days and I put a few pills in and then my finger seemed to be wet, then I saw that one of the days had a bit of water in it and the pill was dissolving. It didn't seem possible for that to be! I looked for a leak in the ceiling but there was none. Then I opened the kitchen cabinet that was above my pill holder, and bizarrely the paper towels I had under the dishes on the lowest shelf were wet. The upper shelves were dry.

There is no water source inside the kitchen cabinet. I felt like I was in some crazy universe. I removed the wet paper towels and got a flashlight and used paper towels to feel all around in it and it was all dry.

I would have remained mystified forever, but luckily while looking all over the apartment for any kind of leak or wet areas, I found the carpet in the back of the entry closet was wet. So, that made me feel sufficiently not-crazy to call maintenance. They came and were equally mystified about the source of the water, but when they called whoever they needed to call to request cleanup/restoration people, they learned that in the middle of the night last night, three floors above me, someone's refrigerator had a bad leak.

So they told me the water must have traveled down inside the walls and then come to a fire-stop or something and then come out at random places in my apartment. It totally skipped the floor above me! If there hadn't been the few drops inside my pill holder, I'm not sure I'd have ever noticed.

Now I am waiting for the restoration people to show up with the gosh-awful-noisy fans.

Hi everybody! Here I am again! Made it through the night! Always very happy to wake up and be alive!
This afternoon have Library Book Club which I enjoy monthly. Didn't care for book and despise the author, Jodi Piccolt. She talks a lot of pages, most quite poorly IMO.
Love the discussion and the members. Wish I got out more. Thank goodness for you people. I think of you a lot.

I found Jodi Piccolt's stories to be fluff. They are good when I want mindless entertainment. Most of the time I prefer books that keep me engaged and thinking.

Sunshine one minute and rain the next. I had hoped to get a decent bit of gardening done, but that depends on the weather. We're tidying up the border between us and our neighbour's. He's a quiet guy, nice enough, but I wish he would look after his garden. His father appears occasionally and cuts the grass for him. Our neighbour to the other side has a robot mower called 'Boris'.

that reminds me.. that yesterday , after we'd had lunch all of us went back to my daughters' place.. and as we pulled up, her neighbour who is about my age.. but less mentally & physically able.. had clearly been waiting for my DD to come home, and she opened her front door, and pointed to her garden to show that the gardener my daughter had got for her had cleared all the weeds..

DD said that she's asked on local social media if there was anyone willing to come and weed a small garden, for her neighbour, for pocket money .. but my Daughter vetted them, just so they were clear that if they had any thoughts of scamming an older woman that there would be someone watching out for her.. and so the lady was so pleased with the garden, she couldn't wait to show my daughter...

Lawn guy came along to spray today. I have a serious infestation of wild violets out front and moss in he shadow of the neighbor's giant trees.

I'll probably have to skim the moss up by hand, scarify the soil with a hard rake, then reseed with a shady mix and fertilize. The guy said the trees are sucking up too many nutrients as well as blocking sunlight.

It seems like yesterday that I had wonderful grass, so lush I almost tired of mowing so much. But the trees grew higher and higher and after 3 decades here we are. Very little of my house and grounds can even be seen via Google Maps any more.

Trees are very protected by recent local ordinances though. That means even if the neighbor wanted to thin them there is a lot of paperwork and review.

Other than big box stores, most places and businesses around here are closed today. Events are canceled too. Is this the norm where you live too?

Everything except business offices are open today.. reduced hours in some stores.. ie..Tesco is open from 6am to 10pm instead of closing at midnight.

It's a 4 day holiday here so it's only Sunday when the majority of shops and businesses will be closed..

I didn't much care for JP's "By Any Other Name" either. I've enjoyed some of her books, but getting through that one became an endurance test.

Goodness, what a morning! It's a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and warm temps. Yay!

DD and I went to the garden centers before the rooster was awake, and they actually had the bedding plants that we both still needed. Woohoo! We got our plants.

When we got home, there were dead tree limbs that have been needing to be cut down. I pointed them out, DD used the limb lopper and got them down. I'm in charge of cutting them up and getting them into the trash cans. Some are done, but I needed to take a break.

All the flowers have been planted, and that means it's done! That is, the planting part is done; most of the weeding is still waiting. Now that the planting has been accomplished, the rest of the !#$%&*! can be addressed. But not today.

There must be a reasonable explanation for weeds. Anybody know what it might be?

Good Friday. When I was a kid, everything closed from 12-3. Everything. Retail, grocery, banks. The only things open were churches and hospitals. Times have changed.
