Are TV ads too gross?

Stinky pits & boobs are not pleasant. Supported testicles sounds like a good thing. I guess one of the hazards of paying for ad free TV viewing i don't see those.

I remember seeing offensive deodorant ads all through the years, but it seems there are more now. I also see ads for prescriptions that treat libido and stamina as offensive.

I don't have TV and I always stream with ad free package. But from a psychological standpoint, "gross" gets people's attention and I've heard that 3/4 of the strategy is just getting your attention. I read one time a study, or something that claimed to to be a study, found that the most effective ads, that is effective at getting your money, are seldom the ones you find most enjoyable. Think what we might, I believe the experts of Madison Ave, know what they are doing. They don't care what you like, they care only if you buy.

Yup, we now have deodorant for "pits and boobs". And there are products ads that promise "v******l comfort". Also, there are products that promise to caressingly support testicles.

thankfully we don't get any of that on our TV ads. Our Commercials are strictly regulated to stop anyone being offended...

Also we don't get commercial every couple of minutes like the US... there can be no total aring of adverts longer than 7 minutes during an hour of programming.

In reality how that works is we get around 2 minutes of advertising every 15 or 20 minutes....

Also on the commerical channels..these rules apply...

Advertisements must not be inserted in the course of any broadcast of:
(i) a news or current affairs programme of less than half an hour scheduled
duration;
(ii) a documentary of less than half an hour scheduled duration;
(iii) a programme for children of less than half an hour scheduled duration;
(iv) a programme designed and broadcast for reception in schools;
(v) a religious service or other devotional programme;
(vi) a religious programme (other than religious services or devotional
programmes which may not carry any internal advertising at all) of less than
half an hour scheduled duration;
(vii) a formal Royal ceremony or occasion

I am so grossed out when I see a young woman show what shouldn't be shown. The only point can be is to sell, but women are mostly not happy about these ads. What happened to wonderment and happy surprise when a man and woman discovered one another? Nothing is sacred anymore.

Maybe it’s a generational thing.

Things that offended/shocked my mother don’t bother me.

The interesting thing about commercials is that they seem to spend the most pushing the products that we need the least.

It also amazes me that they spend so much on health/medical items that impact such a small percentage of the population, the profit margins for those products must me enormous.

One channel I watch has tons of commercials for St. Jude. I don't complain, since it's for a good cause. One of the ads features a little boy named Beckett. I must see that one 5 times a day if I have that channel (TBD) on long enough.

The song that they play in that commercial has become one of my favorite earworms.

I find one ad so annoying that I reach for the mute button the minute it comes on. It's the one for Liberty Mutual. Not offensive in the way some of these others are, but that repetition of Liberty, Liberty, Liberty is really grating. Does an ad like that really get more customers? It would drive me away, even if it was the best insurance company in the world.

The ones for online gaming are the ones I find so offensive. They try to convince gullible people that if they just sign up for their service the people will be winning money hand over fist.

The deodorant ads have never been fun to watch, but there are some funny ones.

I like the old gals in the weather tech ad.

The cows in the chic-a-fillet are funny.

The dogs that have been driving Subarus since forever, are always a treat.

If I don’t like a commercial, I either fast forward or mute the tv until its over.
