Brazil’s lifelike doll craze

I volunteer at the local nursing home. There is a patient there with dementia. She was nonverbal and would sit in her wheelchair crying. One of the nurses decided to get her a "real doll". The transformation in this woman is nothing short of a miracle. She now talks and sings to her 'baby'. No more crying.

The downside? Gawd help anybody that tries to take her 'baby' away from her.
that's a neat story - used to work in those environs but had no life size dolls on hand

ps: when I first came across the thread I ignored it for probably a week and then gave it a look but I remember I always thought the topic was about life sized adult dolls for men and women?? Erhmm just booked an appointment with my trickcyclist again !!

Has anyone read, Klara and the Sun, by Kazuo Ishiguro?
Just checked and our library has a copy of this book. It’s now on my list to check out.

As to the dolls, I find them quite creepy. But then I’ve always disliked dolls. I can see where they are a wonderful help with dementia patients.

My mother has what we call her emotional support book. Not trying to be funny; she really needs to have a book with her at all times. And preferably, a stack of books available in her bedroom. She can no longer really read but a book is always with her as she goes from room to room.
