What obsessions do you have?

We're all weird little critters. We have minor obsessions that maybe don't make much sense, but we do them anyway.
What obsessions do you have?

Like..... when I got to sleep, I can't have any sheet touch the floor- spiders could crawl up them. Or, things near my kitchen sink have to be kept in a certain order. OMG!!! you can't have a sponge then hand cleaning bottle, it HAS to be cleaning bottle then sponge.

I have to have everything in order, my slippers have to be perfectly together at the side of the bed, clothing I've taken off to be put in wash basket or folded and hung up, or I would never get to sleep, and I have to go through a ritual anyway before going to bed, all plugs sockets have to be switched off, no washing up left in the sink, cushions all buffed up and neat, all windows and doors locked and checked, all towels have to be left hanging straight on the rail in the bathroom, I'm a nightmare

I'll hold my hand up, I'm no domestic god where cleaning is concerned, I just do the bare minimum, but everything has to be straight and kept neat, I can't stand any part of my house being untidy, it's a wonder I don't have heart failure when the great grandchildren come lol

First thing every morning when I get up, I call my check in service to let them know I'm okay, then shower, shave and get dressed for the day, then have breakfast, then check my list I made the night before to see what I need to accomplish for the day. This routine never varies unless I'm sick.

I don't know why, but I have an odd obsession with my outgoing voicemail announcement; changing it every few days. It is never in my own voice. It's an AI generated text to speech voice.

An hour before bedtime, I make sure alarms are on, deadbolts are locked, and lights lowered, but at least one dim lamp has to be left on all night in every room in the house. No total darkness ever unless there is a power failure. And I set my phone on do not disturb, so that it will not make a sound through the night unless an immediate family member calls or texts.

I have all the popular OCD rituals. I can check a double locked door more times than in the McGuiness records. I drive the hubs crazy and he keeps insisting that I get a job advising the Secret Service on security. Counting things, arranging things, nervous tics, and the list goes on. My hubs claims he could write a best seller, called my wife's bizarre behavior.

"How many times more will you check the car door after you heard it click locked " He asked?

I remind him that in over 35 years of marriage, that not once has our car been found open. Also since the invention of the remote lock system. I haven't broken one key making sure the lock was fully engaged. Back in the day, we got to know our local locksmith very well.

Maybe not obsessions or OCD just some over checking at times. This is because my mind tends to wander off sometimes.
If I absolutely need to remember to take something when I leave the house I usually put my car keys with it.

At night I end up checking if Ive locked the door several times cause I get distracted and forget if I checked it or not.
And then I have to get out of bed to check it again cause I have to know.
So now the routine is to focus and do a check right before I go to bed. :D

Getting distracted and forgetting, then rechecking, is the definition of OCD. If I focus and mentally record that I check a lock, then I wouldn't recheck it. I may on the initial locking, violently twist the knob back and forth several times, but that is another issue. Initial product quality testing differs from unnecessary bizarre rechecking. :ROFLMAO:

I'm obsessed with keeping things in each room that I need regular access to so that I'm not constantly having to run through the house to get stuff to drag to another room with me. Example of having a box of tissues in the bedroom and having to take it to the living room with me and then bring it back. Seems like far too much work. It's easier to have tissues in both rooms.

It doesn't help me get very organized because I have stuff everywhere. LOL! They told me at pumlo rehab to keep things handy to save my energy so I'm doing it.

I too can't sleep with the covers touching the floor cuz of the whole spider thing. I also like to leave a light on somewhere so I can see if there's a spider on the ceiling above the bed if need be or on the floor when I'm in the bathroom. Don't like being surprised by a run by.

This thread somehown morphed from minor obsessions to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, a serious mental health issue. I've known exactly one person with bona fide OCD and I'm here to tell you, it ruled/ruined her life and became a huge problem for her family.

Obsessive–compulsive disorder is a mental disorder in which an individual has intrusive thoughts and feels the need to perform certain routines repeatedly to relieve the distress caused by the obsession, to the extent where it impairs general function. Obsessions are persistent unwanted thoughts, mental images, or urges that generate feelings of anxiety, disgust, or discomfort. Wikipedia

I am very security minded, but not obsessive about it, meaning once a system is set up, whether passwords or home alarm, I employ it fully and cross it off my mental list.

Generally speaking, I live a relaxed, free-form life. If I wake up to a couple of dishes in the sink (mine or DH's), I simply catch them in the morning while the coffee is brewing. Or DH does. No biggie. No drama.

I am not OCD. I dont get stressed and panicked if I forget something or things are out of order.
Things being in order makes it easier to find stuff. But its fine if theyre not.

For me its more like I need to pay attention better. So I dont do things like lose my car in the parking lot because I was thinking about something else instead of paying attention to where I parked. :D

The reason I need to make sure my doors are tight shut and locked is because I have a monitored security system.
If a door pops open in the middle of the night there will be consequences. If the alarm goes off and I dont wake up the police might break my door down. ADT will charge me money for a false alarm. And if you have too many the police will also charge you money.
That and the neighbors probably don't want to hear my sirens go off in the middle of the night. :D

you do know don't you, that regardless of floor touching sheets, spiders can just climb up the divan or the legs of a bed just as easily....:ROFLMAO:
