Do you declutter/tidy regularly?

I don't change my clothes with the seasons... I have clothes I've had for years and still love... but I do regularly about every 6 to 8 weeks give a lot to charity in donations of clothes and Bric-a brac.... in fact I did so just 4 days ago.... handbags, clothes, shoes, kitchen paraphernalia some of it never been used
I'm not getting rid of everything, I just swap out heavier clothes with lighter clothes & vice-versa. I'll get rid of something that doesn't fit or if I find something that needs to be replaced because it's too worn for decent wear. Worn items get thrown in with my barn/yard work clothes. I have clothing bags that keep things clean between wearing times.

I've had some of my coats & jackets for years. I always buy clothes that I love & I don't follow fashion trends so I get my wear out of them.

@Ronni The way you declutter is so smart!
I do declutter on a regular basis but for me, that’s meant twice yearly when I do my heavy spring and pre Holiday cleaning.
Decluttering a drawer or a closet once weekly would make spring, holiday cleaning so much easier!
i think I’m going to adopt your method!

I have the same.
Some of these posts are making me really depressed!
Think Holly is the only one who is vaguely like me….only she’s tidier. I’m another cupboard shover, out of sight, out of mind.
The houses I really hate to visit are ones like a friend who used to live down the lane. She lived in a newly built bungalow, moved area now.
I was SO nervous of even sitting on the sofa in case (God forbid) I squashed a cushion, so I perched on the edge & used to nurse the cup of tea she gave me for fear of it leaving a mark on a surface. Not a sign of anything….anywhere. No newspaper, books, knitting….nothing.!!!
I was too ashamed to ask her round to my old cottage full of books, plants, pictures, squashy old sofas covered in throws because of the DOGS……heaven forbid she got a dog hair. 😳

So no, I rarely declutter, the thought is enough 🙄

Your house sounds lovely, I too have books, pictures and old sofa that is so comfortable but too expensive to reupholster, dog hair and cat hair but no house plants any more only outside where it is like a jungle.

NO..I'm terrible... I stuff everything into drawers and cupboards so it's out of my sight and everything looks tidy...

You can come and tidy all my drawers out if you like... what a horrible job that is... I did it recently... but I have closets full of stuff, albeit on shelves, drawers full, sideboard.. *ugh* lol.. but it's all good stuff, it's not junk...if it was junk I could easily just throw it all out..

I have 30 drawers.. not including kitchen drawers... desk... triple closets.. walk-in closets.. good grief..it sounds like a jumble sale it isn't because it's all in the closets..:ROFLMAO:
This is the kind of thing I’m often hired for, to organize and make sense of the jumble 😉

One of the clients I’ve had for 25 years is a repeat offender! 🤣 She had a large, beautiful, artfully decorated home in the expensive part of town. It looked like something out of House Beautiful, and it was…until you opened a cupboard or drawer!!

I spent months, one afternoon each week, going through her entire house, slowly bringing order to the chaos. She was beyond thrilled, and when it was all done, I started over, because she admitted she was simply incapable of keeping it up! That and the fact that I did many other things for her…helping with the parties and gatherings she hosted, decorating for Christmas, computer work and the like.

I developed a routine to cycle through the entire house over a 4-6 month period, re-organizing the drawers, closets, cupboards of each room in between the many other things I did for her.

More recently she chose to move, and it was a chaotic process…for many reasons she lived out of both the old and the new residence for about 6 months, so now we’re back to square one in the new place, as I again am going room by room, decluttering and organizing In the midst of the many other tasks I’m doing for her.

Ronni, if you didn't live so far from Hollywood... you would make a fortune..... from the stars !

@hollydolly I used to live in Hollywood back in the late 80’s early 90’s when the kids were little and one of the few times my ex kept a job for more than a few months. He worked in the Industry so we mingled with celebs a lot.

Paige’s best friend back then was Lucy, the daughter of Nancy Cartwright who was the voice of Bart Simpson from the Simpsons. I was friends with Leigh Anne, Tom Cruise’s sister and her son Sean and our kids played together.

I bought new towels, breakfast plates and some other items and packed up the old stuff right away. A young single mom wants it all so I will deliver it to her. I have emptied many homes and have helped people downsize.

I love doing it and was going to start a business doing it for people. But the last time I helped a friend my back, neck and shoulder was killing me. Plus I make 65/hour consulting and can’t make nearly that much helping people downsize so I decided against it.

No, because I infrequently have guests, and when I do, they are those I know well. My residence is a...hideout. So it doesn't matter and yes dust does pile up on clutter. But do not like dust and messes where I frequent like in the kitchen. Nothing in my sink ever sits there more than a couple days. Two months ago over a week, thoroughly rebuilt and cleaned up several rooms so is very presentable at the present.

Anything I don’t or won’t need gets tossed. My housekeeper does a great job of keeping things clean. We kind of work together trying to keep everything tidy.
