Reflections of My Life

hi, i don't have a shredder either katlupe. I fill my kitchen sink with water and put everything i wanted to shred in the water for a few seconds. Then wring out the water and voila! All is ready for the garbage and unreadable.
I could do that! Thanks for the tip!

Not sure what is up with the post office but I had a delivery scheduled yesterday for a purchase from Amazon for my son. It came yesterday but on the tracking from the post office and at Amazon it shows it was not delivered. On Amazon it said there was a problem with the address (there was not) and could not be delivered????

No plans for today yet. Just staying cool.

It rained during the night and early morning. We needed it. Our grass on the backyard lawn has been as brown as brown could be for weeks now. A free roaming cat killed our rabbits who were living out there so maybe it was better than starving. Though they were most likely tortured first. They left the bodies.

I received my new bag I ordered from Etsy for walker. My old one wore out so I wanted a pink or purple one. I am happy with it. Looks nice!

Today I felt totally depressed. So probably better not say too much and just get off the computer for the night. I will be okay in the morning.

Today is starting out to be a good day. I received an email this morning that is a reply to one I sent. Made my day!

Now I am gathering together my laundry and planning on getting down there around noon. Usually the laundry room is empty around then. Just doing one little chore at a time today. So I don't get stressed about getting stuff done by a certain time.

Today I have a busy day planned. Nothing exciting though. To tell the truth, I can't imagine getting excited about anything any more. The closest I come to that is listening to music by a favorite artist. Or getting my apartment super clean and seeing how great it looks. Not jumping up and down excitement. I am a calm person but maybe I became that way over time. I cannot recall for sure.

I just heard a loud squeaking noise and it was 2 workman with racks of files from the other half of our building. I hate when I see heavy things being loaded on the elevator because that is usually when we have trouble with it. After they use it. Hope not.

I had to order groceries because Rabbit is out of almost every single thing. He has one small piece of banana left for tonight. So hopefully, they will have everything I ordered for him. My food doesn't matter as much. I always have food stocked up. But if I have to order for him I will include my regular items too.

More coffee now.....

In 2011, a squash plant started growing in the compost pile at my house. It came from the seeds I had thrown in the compost pile when I was processing the zucchini and summer squash from the garden. It took over! Some of the squash looked like a cross between the two. The leaves were gigantic and often hid the squash under them. By the time I found them the squash would be super big. Most people would not use those but food was hard to come by and I did not waste a thing.

Even though the USDA canning regulations caution you not to can any of the squashes. Summer, winter or zucchini, etc. I did. They said they would come out slimy and yucky. Not mine. I followed a very old canning book when they used to can it in cubes not slices. Remove every seed and I never had a problem. We could eat it in 3 or 4 years and it was still just like it was fresh picked. I grew a lot of squash!

I had to replace my silicone baking things (don't know what to call them) and egg poachers. I cannot stand the smell of them. It is funny that it didn't bother me when I first started using them. Now it does. I may have mentioned it before but I got a stainless steel egg poacher that I can use on the induction burner.

The insert cups for the eggs are nonstick. So I am careful when removing the eggs not to scratch them. Anyway, that is not what I intended on telling you. I just wanted to mention how heavy that pan is!!! It is as heavy (with the inserts and lid) as a cast iron skillet. That is without the eggs! Maybe it is good exercise for my wrists.

Today I am working on seasoning the cast iron skillets. Since I cannot put them in an oven I have to work a bit harder to get them seasoned the way I like and need them. I am sorry I got rid of my old ones. at least the smaller ones. I cannot use a big skillet or pan on the induction burner. I am expecting to have to replace that burner sometime soon in the future. Lots of scratches on the burner. I am careful with it though.

Living downtown you would think there would be some kind of store besides the "smoke shop" where people could buy food. No, someone opened a mercantile store recently that has some food but mostly candy and other sweets. You know it has to be pricey too. Even the convenience stores are not close to downtown. So if you live downtown you cannot get there if you do not have a car. Some people in my building use bicycles and e-bikes. Miss the bus!

The people who do not have vehicles had been shopping at the service pharmacy because they sold food too. They recently closed and it is missed. Sometimes I would go there to buy a banana for Rabbit when I ran out. Restaurants and little boutique stores are expensive for the people who live here and in this area. Then people complain because everyone shops at Walmart. Well their prices are lower and they deliver.

I think today will be a quiet day. Always is on Sunday. Many people go to church and will be gone most of the day. i always find things I have to do. Might work on my computer most of the morning. I have a bunch of things to catch up on.

Is there a taxicab service where you are, Kat? Or Uber? Can you collect signatures for bus service?
Every now and then a taxicab will appear around town but doesn't last long. I don't know anything about Uber. Might be too small of an area for that. The bus service is an ongoing concern and topic of conversation at the city council meetings. It was discontinued (not because nobody used it) because the company that ran it wanted more money and the county refused to pay that. Yet now, they are planning on building a new county office building that will cost millions to build. People are protesting this presently.

Uber here is $6 a mile. That's a lot on a limited income. I forgot to add that cabs here are $10 a mile.
When there was a taxi here they started charging $20. to go one way to Walmart, which was where everyone wanted to go. 2.5 miles one way. Nobody could afford it.

There are a lot of empty stores now on the main drag but every time a store opens up it is not the kind we need.

same here. and with uber it depends on how busy they are as to what a ride costs.

Today will be busy for me. After I finish my coffee I will be walking out to the dumpster. Then going to take Rabbit's area all apart so I can vacuum it. Then put it all back together. He probably won't be crazy about me doing that.

I want to buy a fan next month. I put it in my budget so will try to get it. Other than a couple other necessities I am going to do another "No Buy" month. That does not include food or Rabbit's stuff. I am trying to do this every other month from now on. I don't really need anything anyway.

Sounds a lot like our town,, cab services come & go.

There is a bus service that we see in town & sometimes outside of town.
It does go to Walmart.

We both still have our driver's license,, but drive less than a year ago.
I still have my driver's license but have not driven since 2019. I chose not to have a vehicle because of the expense. I don't regret it. Thank goodness I have Sonny to help me when I have to get somewhere.

Now I basically get everything delivered except when Sonny comes here. He takes me to Walmart or wherever I have to go. Usually on the 3rd.

Why would someone post a picture of their dead rabbit on FB? With his head bent to the side and his eyes open. He was white like Rabbit with ruby eyes. I could not get off there fast enough. So had to go check my bunny boy to make sure he is okay and alive. He is. He said, "Mom, why did you wake me up if you are not going to give me some treats?" Sadly, it comes up in my feed if it has anything to do with rabbits.

I don't have anyone to drive me to appointments except for one housemate if he is free and can use my car. I had appointments Thursday, Friday and today. It was good to just jump in the car and go. I hope it continues this way for a long time.

For appointments I can use a medi van that my insurance pays for. Medical, dental and therapy, I think. I haven't used it much because I don't have a lot of appointments. Sonny takes me to the foot doctor because they are friends and he likes to talk to him while he does my feet.
