A Baseball Great Has Passed Away

Davey Johnson, a former 2nd baseman for the Orioles and on to manager of the NY Mets has passed at age 82. He was one of the best and led the Mets to win the series in 1986.

A keen baseball strategist, Johnson brought the Mets to win 90 games several times and even 100 in one of his years as their manager. It was always a pleasure to go to the games at Shea Stadium during his tenure there. He had terrific players and to name a few, Tom Seaver and Darryl Strawberry along with Dwight Gooden were among his standouts.

Condolences to Davey's family. May he soar with the angels.

A great 2nd baseman for the Orioles. I was upset when the Orioles traded him, especially since he hit 43 homeruns the next season with the Braves !

Not only was he a good player but he was a math major in college and one of the first to use statistics to make decisions before the Oakland As used metrics/stats ie money ball around the turn of the century to win their championships.

Speaking of the Mets, I doubt they will make the playoffs at the rate they've been going recently. Sad.
