What Winter Preparations Are Underway

Most of the exterior chores were done over a month ago. The only thing left is the gutters. In the past couple of days the majority of leaves have come down.

I’m in search of good winter boots. My only source is Amazon. Even though I’ve ordered Clarks, they just don’t fit like they used to and the tread isn’t great. I have one more pair ordered. Fingers crossed (or maybe that’s toes).

The Heating and Cooling company's coming out Tuesday to inspect my furnaces. The security company came out last week to make sure my system was up to date. I have leaves to blow off of my driveway, deck, and patio, but I'm waiting for them all to come down first. I'm stocking up on a few can goods. We don't usually have a too harsh of winter, but just in case, I want to be prepared. Anymore it's hard to predict the weather. I'm waiting for a part for my generator. Our electricity has gone out several times in the winter. I hope that's all that needs done. My husband usually took care of these things, so I hope I haven't forgot anything.

I rotate my seasonal clothing, though I had left many fall-winter garments easily within reach. I didn't even rotate my scarves with winter hats, so the hats are still readily available. I did have to have my son dig my coats out from the back of his closet. Living in a co-op, I don't have to worry about external preparations since management sees that all winter related maintenance issues are taken care of. Also I have no car to maintain.

Even tho I live in So. California, there is prep for the cooler, rainy weather. I order huge boxes of hot hands, wear flannel shirts, arrange all the warm gloves nearby, and put a room heater near the computer. This year I purchased two warm jackets ( one is a warm raincoat ) for my ex-racing Greyhound. They have thin skin and fine fur. So basically if I am cool/cold so is he. He is getting used to wearing clothes now...lol

We do some winter prep at the end of the season so it's ready to go for the next because the prices are lower to have the work done - wood burner cleaned/pipe inspected, furnace checked & in late summer fill up the LP when prices are lower. A lot of times when I start putting odds & ends away I clean or take care of the maintenance then so it's not forgotten.

Back in September I started to switch summer clothes to winter. The mid-weight jackets are in the closet.

Stock tank heater, heated stall buckets & horse blankets are ready to go in the barn. Lawn equipment stored in the back of the garage out of the way. Front porch furniture has been put up & replaced with the wood rack. As the plants die back in the beds, I'll pull them up. The garden has already been cleaned out. Pond aerator has been pulled out, cleaned & stored away.

This weekend the weather is nice so we rented a cherry picker at the last minute so we can top a few trees & get a few things on the outside of so we don't have to climb ladders.
