Need advice about turkey in crockpot

I've never cooked a turkey breast in a crockpot, but my brother has, and he said it turned out great. He couldn't remember the recipe. Helpful!

There are zillions of recipes online. Whaddaya think? Have you done it? How did you do it? Did you use a crockpot liner?

We have a bone-in 6lb breast and a boneless 3lb breast. They'll each have their own crockpot, of course.

This is how I've done mine for years now... always turns out perfect. (And yes, I use a liner.) Mine are usually around 5-7 lbs.

Thanksgiving Turkey Breast

Place turkey breast in slow cooker, elevated on a few carrots. Soften a little butter and mix it with a small amount of onion powder, garlic powder, sage, and Italian seasoning. (Important to just soften the butter and not melt it!)

Rub all over the turkey (messy, messy with hands... maybe you can find a better way) and even under the skin if possible.

Add about 3/4 cup of chicken broth to bottom and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours.

I prefer turkey baked in the oven. It comes out more tender and juicy. It always seems kind of dried out when cooked in a crock pot.

My wife uses those plastic oven bags, which eliminates splatter.

One more question...will it come out of the crockpot all in one piece?
Wish you could see me trying to make that happen every year. 😁 The best answer I can give is "sometimes." It gets so tender that even when I've stuck something in both ends, it sometimes falls off the bone. This year I'll be trying a large metal spatula underneath it... but like my Daddy always said "don't worry about that, it's going to taste exactly the same." :giggle:

Are you talking about a whole big turkey, though? A 5-7 lb turkey breast always dried out a lot more in the oven for me. I'd not try a whole turkey in the slow cooker/crockpot.
