What do you guys think of AI (Artificial Intelligence)?

What bothers me about AI is that younger people --who should be learning to think, along with learning knowledge-- tend to rely on it for most all information, even for material that they should already know. The logical end point of that is that eventually people won't be able to think or reason very well at all.

Obviously AI has some excellent uses, and one could see how that is beneficial. But information from AI is only as good as the people who program it-- biases included.

Like people who tend to believe anything written in a book is truthful, we now have a new technology that people put their faith in. And who will police it? And by what standard?

I 'consult' AI for some trip planning. Wife and I are serious hikers and even though I consult books and online sites, I can often get a more fully detailed description of hikes. I can get detailed info on how to get to the trailhead, 'step by step' description, side trips, transportation, etc.
I do try to check on what is presented in my query. I know AI is not 100%.

Not only younger people, this affects people of all ages, I find myself using AI for even simple x y type formulas rather than think it out for myself.

Before AI came along, I spent far too much time clicking various webpages to get results, then tying it all together. AI has greatly reduced that time by doing much of the consolidation for me in advance. I refer to the links AI provides to see what they say, and how closely they match the AI response, then determine the validity of the outcome. Overall, it's been a satisfactory experience for me. When AI makes mistakes, it's often a result of the way a question or search was phrased.
I agree with what you are saying. As opposed to wadding thru the various search engine supplied web pages AI seem to cut to the point of the question being asked. I have saved much time in searches. The other pro's and con"s ?? not sure yet, but it does save time and effort and as you say it matters how your question is worded.

My thoughts on AI are mixed right now. Yes it does offer many benefits but it is not infallible with results. I suspect it all depends on the AI being used. In other words AI is not the be all, end all.
It is simply superior to google searches.

Whenever I have computer issues of any kind, Copilot is my hero. I just tell it what I want, and what is happening or not happening, and it walks me through the process to fix it. It is soooo much better than watching videos that may or may not address my situation. Copilot is like having a pro right there with you. It has saved my bacon many times when I have reached the limits of my know how, not to mention helping me in so many other ways. It's an extremely useful tool.
