It was so cold in the winter up in the (poorly) converted attic which had been made into three bedrooms. We didnāt have them either.
We had old thin wool blankets and handmade quilts.

My husbandās mother made those heavy quilts and he still uses one on his bed. Theyāre also on the guest bed. People like them; I donāt. We had so many I gave or donated most of them. In hindsight I should have kept a couple more.It was so cold in the winter up in the (poorly) converted attic which had been made into three bedrooms.
One of my grandmas was a quilt-maker. She used the heavy old-fashioned batts inside and those quilts weighed a ton.
A couple of blankets and one of those quilts on you and you were toasty. I think they were the forerunners of the "weight blankets" that are popular today....lol.
Oh good! I thought they were gone.Satin-edged blankets are still made by many mfgs, and still are sold. You can find them on-line easily with a Google search: "satin-edge blankets" and you'll find dozens of them, in various fabrics.
That's what I remember from childhood- unless it was freezing cold, it was a chenille bedspread and sheets.Dont rememberthe kind of blanket I had as a child? What i do remember was the chenille bedspread because i covered up with that! Maybe my mother didnt think i needed a blanket? Now I need to ask my younger sister. She probably had a blanket with a satin edge!
