We lived on the PA side of the OH/PA border when my son was junior in high school. He and several friends ditched school that year for an overnight trip to Gobblers Knob. It was a once in a lifetime thing, so it had my blessing with an ample supply of pocket money.

That was in 1990 so by then crowds were huge and getting close to Phil was impossible. But the kids got pretty close, the cold wasn’t too brutal, hot chocolate was expensive, and they had a great time.

All the kids had excuses from their parents. Since Ground Hog Day in PA is almost as important as First Day Of Hunting Season where we lived, the teachers couldn’t do much more than roll their eyes😇😎😇😎

I predict I'm going to be stuck in my hose for another week due to my driveway being covered in snow and ice. I'm hoping Punxsutawney Phil
does not see his shadow.

Groundhog or Woodchuck the same animal, was a source of protein way back when, way way back when.

What Does Groundhog Taste Like? An In-Depth Culinary Exploration

The link from "Tasty Food Lovers will:
Compare groundhog to rabbit, squirrel, venison and pork. Ex[plain how to prepare, how to clean off parasites, take out the scent glands, how to marinate and more.
How to cook, braise, stew, etc.

I'm off to have my egg rolls... No eggs, what a strange name.

In case no wonder has wondered except me, where does Phil live before he makes his appearance this morning on center stage at Gobbler's Knob?

Phil and his Wife live at the local library! They have been placed in an area next to the front window so he is really an all year attraction. Keeping interest alive, making appearances at other events during the year.

I don't know about you, but I think the groundhogs need to feel the earth all around them, as they were meant to live, but they're living above ground.

Posting is slow and I wanted to fix the Poll but that feature isn't working at all for me. Poll should have closed yesterday but I put in the wrong date by accident.

Currently this is the way votes came in:

If it's a sunny day, Phil will see his shadow and retreat to his home. This indicates six more weeks of winter.
However, if it's a cloudy day, Phil will stay out which indicates an early Spring!
I never understood this. If it's sunny he should stay out. If it's cloudy he should go back in. It's just the opposite of that. But mythology and lore are not always known for their logic.

@JustDave Yes, it sounds backward, I guess he's afraid of his shadow? and goes back into the burrow so he's sheltering from fear and snow. My logic wants to say. haha
