Neil Sedaka dies aged 86

From Instagram;
“Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Neil Sedaka.
A true rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but most importantly, at least to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, an incredible human being who will be deeply missed.”

A crooner of the highest order. I love his music.

As Long as I live - Neil Sedaka 1959

Didn’t know him but knew his family. They had a hot dog stand right next to the boardwalk at the beach. Being a neighborhood kid Neil was known by most folks around these parts.
Thus i take this one personally and feel very sad on that level.
I was a fan of his music too. He was teenage friends with Carole King
The Tokens (lion sleeps tonight) were also neighborhood kids. All these talented kids hung out together in high school.

He was definitely talented. I wasn't a big fan of his type of music, but I did like hearing it years later because it brought back sweet memories.
Me neither, I was never a Sedaka fan per se... but as a teen I enjoyed the chart music of his..Oh Carol...which is probably the number one Karoke song in the bars for decades... and ''Breaking up is hard to do''.... but because I wasn't a fan generally of him, I never bought any of his records...

However he was a very inspirational songwriter for other musicians

Oh No! I was only watching him on YouTube the other day singing his old hits. He will be greatly missed.
R.I.P. Legend.

From our era, we lost Catherine O'Hara and Robert Duvall. They say it comes in threes, so the final shoe has dropped.

RIP to a very talented man who helped shape my teenage years. I had Laughter in the Rain on my cassette recorder. Such a great song!

If anything, it worked in his favour. His voice sold over 40 million albums.
As a kid in the sixties watching the songs come out, I couldn't have known that. I just knew that I didn't buy any of his records because why would I want a guy who sings like a woman? I wondered if anyone else saw it that way.

But then girls bought more records and they go for the lyrics. He wrote clever songs.
