Does anyone over 80 YO still do their own yard work

I'm going on 83 at the end of the year and I still rake my yard of leaves and rubbish. It is not a big yard but gets a lot of sunshine which can be very hot in the summer. I don't have any grass because I covered it over with a weed mat and laid bark
on top of it. What a job, because I had to buy 30 bags of bark and laid it all by myself. It looked terrific. I refuse to go to a car-wash and wash and vacuum the car when it needs it.
 
I do not mow my yard. It is a large corner lot on an incline and needs to be done a riding mower, which I do not have. The cost of buying and maintaining a riding mower wouldl likely cost as much or more over time than hiring it done every two weeks, plus I would have to do the work.

I'm 73 soon to be 74, and I wonder what I'll be capable of doing in the future. Today I did a massive amount of yardwork, running chainsaw cutting tree limbs, hoeing weeds along fence-line, running riding mower for a couple hours over 2-1/2 acres.. Tomorrow will be cutting up tree limbs and hauling to the dump.
I wonder if I'll be able to do this type of work in 10 years, 5 years, or even next year. :unsure:
 
My widowed neighbor is 80 plus and still tending her 12 acres, running the tractor/loader, dragging brush, tending a garden and has a big zero turn mower she's always on. Up until two years ago she had horses and all the chores that go with them. Her husband was a tough old guy and she's made of tough stock herself, she's impressive.
 
Anyone over 75-80 who can still take care of all their lawn care gets my admiration... @Nathan

On my own when I became a widow, I tried to do lawn care that my husband had done …. no way! Even mowing was becoming a struggle.

So relieved to sell it all and really retire, to an apartment.

Now I enjoy watching a large lawn crew show up every Tuesday and go to town on the 10+ acres I live on.:)
 
We have friends in their 80s and they still mow, weed the gardens, and they run a small daylily farm. She deadheads a couple hundred plants every day and he still digs new gardens with a rototiller. They manually pollinate flowers, move them around, plant and maintain vegetables and have a roadside stand. They manage and keep track of the whole operation all by themselves. Deadhead is cutting the dead flower blooms off a plant. Daylily blooms only last a day. They have hundreds of blooming flowers some of which can have dozens of blooms in various stages. It can bloom for a month.
 
Im 76. So 80 is just a minute away. Ive always been the one to mow our 1 1/2 acres and do all the yard cleanup.
I have a riding mower. I used to have an older Cub Lo boy but I sold it. Ive decided to hire out mowing from now on.
I dont like mowing. I figure if I dont mow I will have more time to dig in my flower beds and work on my projects.
Also I dont have any heirs so I might as well spend it on me. :D
 
I mow my lawn but I am only 79 but approaching 80 I guess. Actually it needs doing tomorrow.

I also mowed the grass verge but am having a row with the council at the moment so I only do selected areas (corner block), there is more grass on the council's bit than on mine
 
I'll be 85 in June, still mow the grass, all other work outside, I hire help.
I enjoy mowing.... up until August. One of the never ending drags of old age for me is not being able to dig in the dirt and do other chores outside that I've always done....but hey, I can still ride the mower.
 
Thanks everyone! I always loved doing outside work but health doesn't permit it now. It's hard to find anyone that you can depend on to do it that I can afford.
