Reflections of My Life

Today I used the compression sleeves in my bed. So I was able to put my feet up at the same time. It was nice! I put the out sign on my door so nobody come knocking because I would not be able to answer it.

I have decided to throw my printer out. I give up on it. Larry cannot help me with my computer stuff anymore because of his stroke. So I will probably have to search for one that may be better for me. I cannot take things apart and fix them.

I know I need one that copies, scans and prints and works with Ubuntu. Of course none of them say they do but I have used various ones in the past. This one did also but the problem is not with the connection to the computer but with the printer heads. I was not able to understand how to clean them except that you have to take them apart. Not happening with me.

I had to place a grocery delivery order for my son this morning. It will be here after noon. So that gives me time to do things and not have to hurry around. Just by doing all the things I used to do for the Lymphedema (compression massage & stockings, staying active & doing foot and ankle exercises) the swelling has gone down a lot.

After the grocery order is delivered I will attempt to put new brakes on my walker. I bought them a couple of weeks ago but just hadn't gotten to them yet. I have had this walker over 7 years and it has no brakes at all. It probably could use new wheels too but that is for another time. I like this model the best and it is right for me.

I bought a newer model of this same walker which I use inside by the recliner and bed but I don't like it as much as this one. The seat on the new one is much smaller and it is not comfortable if I have to sit on it. Usually if I go anywhere and have to sit down I sit on my walker instead of a chair. That way it is always with me and I don't have any problems getting up for a chair. The only place I sit on a chair is in the laundry room. That is because I bring my coloring book and gel pens and have them in the walker basket under the seat. I use it as a desk while I wait for my laundry.

I am not sure why other people who live here will have to pay more for things than I do. One guy said his rent went up almost 100 dollars. My son's only went up $8. My friend downstairs pays the budget amount on her electric (and she has HEAP as well). I never had to pay an electric bill since I moved here because of HEAP. She keeps her lights off at night and her heat on 58 degrees even on the coldest days. I turn mine right up. She says it is because I am on the 2nd floor.

I am waiting for recertification to be finished to see what mine will go up to. I hope it is not $100! I had asked the manager about rents going up and she said on the average only $5-$10. So if your rent goes up there must be some reason for that is all I can imagine. Hopefully I will know by this week.

I did not get the brakes on my walker yesterday. I will try again today. I totally forgot about it. Working on the transportation today so I can get to my therapist appointments in April. So much to do and the day flies by me. I ended up taking the topper off my bed. It made me dizzy to be up that high. I guess I should not have ordered it without giving the mattress on the bed a real chance. Now I am used to it and it is not too hard at all. I just needed to not be dizzy when I lay down or get up. I hate that feeling. I will keep the topper just in case I need it later on. It is really nice.

Kat, that dizzy feeling you experience may be an ear problem. You could try lying down on the side that you more rarely use and see if that helps. If it does, it may be an ear problem. Or maybe google 'Why do I get dizzy getting in or out of bed?'

So far today has been pretty nice. Sun is shining, but cold out. I walked out to the dumpster and then took a short walk around the building. After that I checked my mail and then stopped in to visit with a friend on the 1st floor. She has 2 cats so I like to get my kitty dose for the day.

I arranged my transportation to my first week of therapy in April. You can only do three appointments at a time. She told me to call tomorrow to do the 2nd week. It might be in a taxi because she asked if that would be okay with me. I said yes, just as long as I get to and from my appointments.

Today I got a check from the post office for that money order the manager had lost. Glad that is over with.

I asked Chat GPT what kind of topics would interest senior citizen age women to get ideas for my blog. It did not tell me anything I did not know. So maybe those topics are not such a good idea anymore (If you notice words written backwards on here today, ignore it because my dyslexia is rampant today.). That is because that is what I currently write about on it anyway. I am going to start writing on it again. If I have problems with Blogger I will just start a new one somewhere else.

Right now I am working on the topic of going to physical therapy and setting up transportation for it. It seems like transportation is a much talked about topic here in my building. Only a few people have cars who live here. The bus is an option now but I have not used it yet so I will not include that in this post.

Last night before I went to bed I looked out my door and there was an out of order sign on the elevator. The repairman is here presently. I saw him go out to his van and bring a little bag of parts in. I hope he fixes it. The door has been slow to shut and scraping when it does. Yesterday the lady upstairs hurt her hand on the door and had to go to the emergency room. Probably why the repairman was finally called. I do not mess with the door. I think she put her hand to pull it shut manually and got cut doing it. Her hand did not get caught in the door while it closed. So not sure what happened.

Yesterday I was able to set up my transportation to the therapy appointments. She asked if a taxi would be acceptable to me. I told her anything that gets me and my walker to and from the appointments is acceptable to me. I have 12 appointments in April so want to make it to all of them.

The swelling on my feet and legs has gone way down. When I go to the therapist she will show me how to do the compression wraps myself at home. Now that Lymphedema is classified as a disease, insurance will pay for them. Good thing because the good ones are expensive. I am looking forward to that. Today I walked the hallway and it is easier so will be increasing to 3 laps soon. The activity is helping my knees as well. They are not hurting so much even when I walk. Activity and the warmer weather is probably helping.

I had to order groceries this morning because I had a lot of money left on the UHC card. I ordered early so it was a very early delivery. I like to get it over with in the morning. Otherwise I am waiting for it all day when they are busier.
