Notes from Pappy's diary

Well, our first day of meals on wheels went ok. Can’t say lunch was good but filling. A mystery sandwich, Cole slaw, milk, orange juice, peaches and a package of Lorna Doone cookies.
Supper was much better. Chicken nuggets, mixed veggies, white rice with black bean, milk and bread. Very tasty. This will be a tremendous help to our budget as it is very expensive to rent our apartment.

Temperature should reach 75 degrees today but colder weather moving in for next few days. I look forward to warmer weather again.

That's great news Pappy... if it saves you money and is nutritious...

Out of interest how much does it cost for the meals on wheels there in NY ?

There is no cost for us Holly. However, donations are accepted and we will donate monthly.
Oh wow..that's fantastic... !

here older people have to pay for meals on wheels... average is between £6 and £10 per 2 course meal.. some are as high as £13...

I understand only those with very low income can apply for subsidised meals

My first husband is now disabled with COPD and recovering from prostate cancer ... and he can't get out to shop for groceries , and it's now become very difficult for him to cook.. so he applied reluctantly for meal on wheels... and he said it was inedible....:(

I think it might all depend on who is doing the cooking in which area of the country, but I think at these prices here , they should make it a priority that the food is not only good value but healthy and tasty

I was mistaken Holly.. it’s not meals on wheels. I would have to pay for that. It’s Dutchess County office for the aging. We also received our alert buttons. Like I said before, lunch leaves a lot to be desired but the suppers are just fine.

Raining cats and dogs out. How do I know, cause I just stepped in a poodle,
Seriously, it rained all night and predicts to rain all day.

Not much going on last few days except Saturday we attended our great grandson’s16th Birthday party. Must have been 30 or more folks there. Got home about 5 pm and both of us took a nap.

Got to put in small grocery order. Thanks to our meals I can cut our grocery bill in half or more. I have so much to be thankful for and I am.

Pappy,

Is this the menu for the meals that you and Thelma receive?

https://www.dutchessny.gov/Departments/Aging/Docs/menu2603.pdf

It looks good, very similar to our local meals on wheels menu.

It has rained steady for two days. The April flowers should do well this year. Snowy conditions expected this morning. That sounds like we spend another day inside. Not much going on here this week but I have cut more than half off my grocery bill since we have been getting out meals delivered.

Being on the ground floor has its advantages and disadvantages. My car is right out front of our place and no elevator to bother with.
Disadvantages are this place is always cold because the floors never get warm so our heat bills are way too high. I think I need to invest in some more rugs.

Cold here this am. 25 degrees and partly cloudy. Hopefully the weather will start to turn warmer. Not much going on today except online church at 9 and maybe take a ride later.
Yesterday we watched Heartland most of the day. There is 279 episodes and I have no idea how many we’ve watched so far. Also ordered Pizza last night.
how's the missus doin Pappy?

good planning heh?? - got a son who lives 2 hrs drive away - well he does drive very fast and brings me cigars - homemade hooch - wine - beer and thai delights -[his wife is thai!!] all the healthy stuff!! - sometimes I get so excited i fall out of my evening porch chair!!!

A fairly quiet week here. Monday got my ingrown toenail cut, a few seconds of intense pain but it’s so much better now. There was a new podiatrist and he did a good job. Think I’m going to like him better than old guy.

We have a new property manager for our apartments. Haven’t met her yet but I did send her a email because our lease is over a year and I inquired about the double rent I paid at the start of our lease. It’s supposed to be returned at some point. Haven’t heard back yet.

It’s saying that next few days are warming up. I sure hope so as it’s been really cold here this week.
This is what we are wearing now. Keeps feet warm from these cold floors.IMG_4809.jpegIMG_4808.jpeg
