The "She shredded her Junk Mail"

I wish I could find a way to stop all junk mail, I don't recall ever in my life that junk mail influenced me to use a service or purchase a product. It's all wasted on me.
Canada Post allows us to put up a notice that we don’t want anything delivered unless it is addressed to us. It really cut down on the garbage. Maybe you can do the same with your local mail delivery system.

Any important mail is sent via email.

Some weeks we have no mail.

Like you I procrastinate when it comes to shredding. Don't know why because it can be fun. I've procrastinated so much in the past that I actually had 33 gallon garbage bags full that we used to take to the shredder truck. Pouf....all that paper became confetti in about 5 seconds. Last time I promised myself it would be the last time, that I would keep up with it. I've done a little better but right now, there are papers on my little desk and in a large cloth grocery bag. I'm sure there is more in various bags and I hate to even think about the obsolete paperwork in my filing cabinet that should be shredded too. 🙄

Don't you have recycling in America? Here in Britain, all paper and cardboard is put in bins and recycled. The same with tins, plastic and glass. How much of it is actually re-used I don't know but it is all collected.

Yes, we have recycling in America.
If your personal information is on the documents, you are at risk of identity theft and junk mail.
I watched a show a few years ago about recycling. Some of it is sent to other countries or it ends up in a dump anyway.

Even here in this small town/rural area (US) we have recycling service. There is an extra charge for home pickup. However, there are dumpsters in town for paper and cardboard. It's right across the street from the local grocery store so I do use those. There is also a facility that will take recycleable plastics and electronics. It is some miles away so I don't take the plastics there; I do take electronics because no place else will. The cost last time I went there was 75 cents per pound.

I don't get much junk mail. Some I shred, some not. I just went through the desk file and did the annual shredding. Glad that is finished. Next is the kitchen junk drawer. Some day.

We do, and it is part of our trash service (no extra charge).

We recycle so much that our actual garbage takes up half of a kitchen bag every week.

Yes, those are the ones. I'll ask them to take me off. Thanks - I didn't know they would comply.

Edited to add:
Half the time, or more, I no longer receive SF notifications (on my bell symbol in the blue bar) when someone quotes my posts. I didn't get one, so just now found what you wrote.
That's happened to me in recent days. I didn't know if Matrix was trying to get rid of me or what.

I immediately toss junk mail in the trash. Also....I get so aggravated when you donate money one time to a cause and after that they send you mail consistently to send more money. It usually goes in the trash. I usually won't donate to them again because I give what I can and don't want to be harassed to give more.

Same here- on both points.

When i need to get rid of junk mail or anything sensitive i fill my kitchen sink with a few inches if water. Then float all the junk/papers till it's soggy. Then just squeeze oit the water and toss in the garbage!

I dare anyone to try and steal my identity.

I know someone who didn't have a shredder and did something similar: she soaked the papers in a small wading pool.

I have a burn pile behind the barn where I burn yard stuff. And sometimes things that need shredded like old paperwork.
For daily stuff I tear off my name and put in in with the cat brownies. I put the rest in the trash. Right now the cat brownies are
being stuffed in the groundhog burrows under my barn to encourage them to relocate.

I receive mail daily but only three or four pieces a month are of any importance, the rest is junk mail. Very frustrating. I have a shredder in my garage so any mail that has my name on it gets shredded.

I get about 6 or more pieces of mail per day, almost all from charitable organizations. My "favorite" ones are those that say something like "did you get my previous mail." Sometimes they send trinkets of one sort another, like gardening gloves (all of which go in the trash.) I have nothing against charities, and I know that they share mailing lists. I do give a fair amount, almost all at the end of the year when I take a look at my finances. Here's the thing however--before I was retired 5 years ago I gave higher dollar amounts to more charities; now that I am retired and living in a retirement community I get far more solicitations than I ever did at my house!

I send junk mail back to the post office with Return to Sender written on it.

That wont accomplish what you want. Youre wasting your time. The P.O. doesnt return it they just toss it.
If you have the time and it comes with a prepaid envelope fill their envelope and send it back to them.
Then they get charged for postage. Doesnt have to be their stuff. Just dont include anything with your name.
I still do that sometimes especially if Im getting a lot from one source. :D
