My husband smoked cigarettes. He finally quit smoking . He used the nicotine patches, plus went from real cigarettes to a vape. He gradually lessened the nicotine that he vaped to zero nicotine. Then one day he just stopped altogether.I quit smoking this way. I wrote the time when I smoked one, on the package. Made myself wait a full hour, until the next one. On day two, I increased the waiting period to two hours. Next day, increased the waiting period to 4 hours. By the end of the week, I could go six hours without smoking one. BY week 2, I was able to go eight hours. BY week 3, I had quit smoking. That was ten years ago. I quit drinking at the same time as I quit smoking. The harder one to quit? Tobacco, by a country mile.
It helped that my Wife was never a smoker, and she was a great source of support , telling me how much better I smelled, after quitting smoking. Now I cannot STAND the smell of tobacco. I have one drink per year, on New Year's Eve. A single glass of white wine. JIMB>

Hi Patty! (I am too!)Hello!
My names Patty and I’m a chocola-holic !
You are a stronger person than I am.....I've tried, and I can't do it.I get a fix 3 times a day, been doing it for years. I finally decided enough was enough, this addiction was surely affecting my health.
Cold turkey it is, damn the symptoms!
Dizziness, light head, shakiness, it comes in waves sometimes becoming quite intense. This is day 3 and it isn't getting any easier...
I have been able to get some relief after meal times.
It's taking all my self discipline to endure this miseryI sure miss those semi-sweet dark chocolate morsels

I did that with coffee, back in the 80's.I'm making fun of the topic, but I really am suffering from withdrawal. 35 years ago I went through a similar experience when I quit drinking soda, going cold turkey and never drinking them again.
The first 72 hours is the worst! Before I retired from the hospital, that was the "observation" period.Day 5, it's getting much easierI'm aware of the cravings, but it doesn't feel physically uncomfortable and desperate.
The OP mentioned dark chocolate..What are you withdrawing from? I may have an interesting option for you.
Withdrawing from any narcotic can be hell and in some instances, very dangerous.
I understand and sympathize, a few Hershey’s Special Dark baking chips is one of my favorite diet crutch foods.

Yes, it's horrible. I eat a salad every day for lunch, then I go to the gym where there is a burger joint next door. I smell that, then I get on the treadmill and watch pizza and burger commercials the whole time. I want to eat a whole pizza by the time I get home!Yessssssss! I'm sitting on the sofa eating my lifeless gluten free sandwich when a pizza filled with gluten and covered in lucious melted cheese comes on tv...*Looks away and wipes drool from my chin*
That's my "go to" snack! I have bags and bags of them! (I prefer Nestle's, even though they cost more)I love dark chocolate and couldn't find any at a stop I made today. I never thought of buying a bag of chips! Why not?
Have you tried Nestle's brand? They cost a bit more, but I'm hooked!!!I understand and sympathize, a few Hershey’s Special Dark baking chips is one of my favorite diet crutch foods.
